Hi, using a Nokia E72. When I plug the standard OEM headset in, it comes up with 'use phone microphone' and the mic on the headset does not work.
This headset works fine with a Blackberry so it is not the headset...
Why would I want to use the phone "microphone" when I have a dedicated mic in my headset?
As an FYI, changing the default accessory from headset (which is what it is now) to Headphones (or any other option) does not work.
Please help - I want to use the mic on my headset - Thanks!

Hi
It sounds like the phone has "headphones" set as default and not "headset"
Please try this:
Menu
Control Panel
Settings
General
Enhancement
Headset should be the first option listed (and I am guessing that headphones will be listed as the default)
Do not select headset, but while it is highlighted press the options soft key at the bottom left of the screen and and set it as a default.
Hopefully this will ensure the headset mic is automatically selected.
Kind regards

As I said in my problem description, I have tried that - no luck...
"As an FYI, changing the default accessory from headset (which is what it is now) to Headphones (or any other option) does not work."
This seems to be a known issue from scanning Google - would really like to get a fix for it.
Thanks!

Sorry, I was reading the site on my phone quickly.
Do you have the latest software version?
What country & network is the phone on?

Same issue. I have the Bose MIE2 headphones which have an inline microphone within the cord, however, whenever I plug them into the device, the phone recognises it as "Headphones" and thus prompts me to use the phone's mic.
Like everyone else here, I want it to recognise it as a HEADSET and thus use the inline mic.
Any other suggestions, or are Nokia devices simply incompatible with any 3rd party headphones with built-in mics?!?

I'm in NL, Mexico.
I got a bose headset, works fine with may MBP but doesn't with my e72.
I used the original but, was stolen and I had to buy the bose MIE2
We are much people with the same problem, find a solution or something to fix this.

I think the issue here is that your headset is not compatible with Nokia phones. There are 2 different kinds of pin-orders for identical looking headsets, one works with Nokia devices and the other with iPhones and other smart phones and also with Nokia phones bought from US.
You really cannot see the difference between the jacks but if the microphone doesn't connect and you have e.d. iPhone compatible headset then you would need to use an adapter between the headset and the Nokia phone.

Enhanced headset not supported
my Divoom iTour-20 capsule speaker works with my iPod and it used to work with my E71
now with E72 enhanced headset not supported.
my headphones work on the E72
so, the port for the 3.5 stereo cable works ...
your link is not valid any longer and I am not sure if it would help in any case considering that my hardware is different to the adapter you might have.
mmm what to do before I go crazy:-)

My wired headset worked fine till the "important" software update. After the software update the phone no longer recognizes the headset.
Definitely not a hardware problem as it worked an hour before the "update". Wonder how they can call it an update!
Wish someone can give us an answer soon as I hate using bluetooth.
