Hi, Has anyone been able to check the compatibility of different MicroSD cards with the Nokia 5310? I am looking to purchase one of these phones and immediately upgrade the card memory to the new 8Gb MicroSDHC. Certainly an ipod beater if it does. Does anyone know if this phone supports the SDHC format or is it only the old SD which max out at 4Gb? Many thanks in advance....

I believe it does support SDHC as it has the latest S40v5 FP1 operating system.

Don't know if it supports 8GB cards.

You buy a micro SDHC memory card and put it in the memory card slot.

Availablity of these cards depends on your country and they are usually cheaper online.

I think he wasn't asking how to upgrade the memory rather what the outcome was for you using the microSD HC cards?

Ie. did you get the 4/6/8 GB microSD HC card working in the nokia 5310?

raaaabert, so it worked with a 8 GB microSDHC card, but what about USB transfer rate with PC ? With the original 2 GB one, I only get about 700 KBytes/s (quick test with Nero), that is, quite slow to manage MP3 everyday... According to SDHC specifications, I should get a *minimum* transfer rate of 4 MBytes/s. But won't the phone memory or USB controllers slow it down to the 700 KB/s I have now ?

I'd recommend you get the Sandisk 8GB card, though the Kingston will probably be the same.

It comes with an adapter that works perfectly. I did a few tests and a 6MB song file took less than a second, an entire 50MB album took only 4 seconds, so its definitely USB2.0 speeds.

I have used a ScanDisk 8GB microSDHC card with my 5310 and have had no issues at all with it, i get a good transfer rate and no slowdown on accessing it via the phone menus, although my update of the music library took a while lol

raaaabert, you're of good advice ! With Sandisk 8 Go microSDHC card and card reader, I obtain a write speed around 14 MBytes/s. Even with the original Nokia card, it reaches 7 MBytes/s instead of the 700 KBytes/s while plugging the phone directly to the computer, ten times slower ! And with such a storage capacity, I don't have to fill the thing every day. I found the card + the reader at about 55 euros on Amazon.fr, which was in fact linking to DVD.co.uk.
