Does the usb cable for data connection - PCSuite etc - also charge the phone when connected or is that function exclusively through the power connector?

There is no link via the pop port to charge the phone. Nokia's charge only via the power connection. Motorola's are different.

The Nokia way is better as you can therefore charge your phone and plug it into a connection at the same time. For example if you are working remotely, you would not want it charging from a laptop for example and draining the battery on the lap top.

Or using the headphones whilst charging in the car???
