Asha 300 and checking emails

Hello,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have searched on the forums and can't find an answer.

I haven't had my phone long and still working it out....I set up my email account with Yahoo just to check email, but found that once I’d done that it kept beeping telling me I had new mail and seemed to be checking mail automatically. I’m on pay-as-you go and it was too expensive and I didn’t want to be notified all the time I had new mail anyway, but couldn’t work out how to turn the mail off. So in the end I restored my factory settings so it would stop doing it.

But since then I’ve been in situations where being able to check my email would be handy. I’ve read though the online user guide and it doesn’t say if you can check mail manually.

Can you and am I just missing something really obvious?

Thanks for any help!

Hello

I'm not personally familiar with Asha 300's interface. But i believe the chat app is almost same.
Try this out. There has always been a option to manually update.

Open Mail and then open your mail account which you wanna turn to manual updates.Select/Tap Options and then the mail account name (not the general settings) such as Yahoo Settings. On the settings screen, you just need to change the value of Update my Inbox to Manual.

Lets see if this helps :smileyhappy:

It has and it worked!! Thanks so much!!!! :smileyhappy:

I do have another small question though...now I have an 'E' symbol at the top of the screen. It says in the user guide that this means it is registered to an EGPRS network and there's also another symbol in the guide which is an E with a line through it indicating the EGPRS network is disabled. I can't seem to disable it...do I need to? Does this means I am connected to the internet all the time and will cost me money even if I'm not using it?

Thanks for the help! :smileyhappy:

Re: Asha 300 and checking emails

If there's the E, that means you are connected to the internet and it will cost you money depending on the plan you have.
As the device runs on 2G network, it can't make a call while using data. So when there's a call to be made or received (or an SMS), the E will be cut off (disabled) for the duration of the call and will resume afterwards.

One thing to note is that if the E is not in a big white box, then it is in a kinda idle state and in that case it won't cost you any data.

Sorry for pushing it long, but if you've ever used WhatsApp, its the one keeping your data connection alive all the time. Just mentioning because a lot of users use it for a while and then forget, but whatsapp keeps the connection active for all the time because that is how it receives messages. If you used it in the past, you need to Uninstall it to get rid of it.

Also try pressing Red Key twice on the home screen. Most of the connections are disconnected (once) by doing that.
