Despite waiting for over 6 months for the latest software update, it has not been possible to update Nokia Asha 309. Tried everything - Nokia Suite Update, OTA, and even Nokia Software Recovery Tool, only to get me to install the same version (5.85) on the phone.
The updates for the newer software versions, including, but not limited to, launchers for WhatsApp and YouTube, updated Nokia Xpress browser, Mail, Twitter, Facebook, VIDEO STREAMING (it's impossible to watch videos with the current software), phone memory management (really irritating to delete all those text messages everytime to make space for taking a photo), manual brightness control (life saver in broad daylight) - ALL of these things are something I'm missing out on. Take it to a Nokia Care, and you are given a reinstallation of the SAME software version.
I understand that support for the Asha series is limited (or probably absent), but hey, give the darn update that's been apparently sitting on your servers for OVER 6 MONTHS!
In the Nokia Software Recovery Tool, what is your 7-letter code (Nokia Product Code)? The same code is printed on your phone. That code determines your firmware variant which determines your current version. We can check together whether you have the correct variant, only with that code.

Will try it again - please wait (a new update to NSRT).
Where exactly will it be present? I don't recall seeing it last time.

Actually, you missed update V 07.55 and V 08.22. Consequently you wait till day one of the release of your phone (December 2012). That is the firmware variant for India (country variant, CV). There, you go …
it's impossible to watch videos with the current software
Both YouTube streaming (RTSP) and watching video files should work even today. What did you try exactly (Wi-Fi or 2G)?
