Re: Nokia Asha 501 compatible with Nokia Suite?

Actually Asha 501 is not compatible with Nokia Suite. Same with other recent Asha & Series 40 devices, like Nokia 206, Nokia 301 and Asha 210.

Asha 501 however has a USB-port and it's compatible with Nokia connectivity cable drivers (http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/support/product/nokia-connectivity-cable-driver/)

Re: Nokia Asha 501 compatible with Nokia Suite?

I'm sorry to hear that, armagon :smileysad:

That pretty much ruined my plans for getting an Asha and using it as a work phone.

I need to send many text messages quickly to multiple users at once, and Nokia Suite is great for that.

Why the choice to exclude the new Asha phones from using Nokia Suite?

It would seem as a good way for the new batch of phones to be used as diversely as possible - if they were supported.

Very bad Nokia! Why not allowed software update via USB cable? It will cost in some case a lot of money from customer! :crying:

Sending data to the memory card using a USB cable is also not allowed?

Re: Nokia Asha 501 compatible with Nokia Suite?

^ You can do that if you select Mass Storage when you plug in the USB cable. It doesn't require Nokia Suite, so all chances that it will be there.

The over-the-air updates are not complete firmware files, but very small deltas. The lastest one is just 112 KB large, a tenth of a megabyte.

the phone will support software updates over Wi-Fi.

data transfer to memory card on the other hand is supported  via USB (with the Nokia connectivity cable drivers).

yes, modem usage on Asha 501 should be possible with Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver.

Re: Nokia Asha 501 compatible with Nokia Suite?

Hi everyone! Thanks for this post, which I was also interested in but about this answer, to Armagon, I wonder if it is alright what you say about connecting to the internet to the pc via Asha 501 as it is only 2G, unless you were talking about the future version 3G. Also, I am in a different country, so not sure but I am interested in this and also, please, if this was the case, then it would be also possible doing it with the Asha 310 or 308??

Cheers!

Re: Nokia Asha 501 compatible with Nokia Suite?

normayin, I am not sure I got your question: From your computer, you can use Nokia 308 and Nokia 310 as modem over USB, to access the mobile Internet. However, I would go for a phone with UMTS (HSDPA) like the Nokia 700. Did that answer your question?

Re: Nokia Asha 501 compatible with Nokia Suite?

NOKIA ASHA 501, Firmware Updates and others softwares are downloadable Over The Air(OTA). Functionally, this phone checks for softwares/firmware update(s) over the air automatically whenever you are connected and upon finding any suitable update It'll automatically download and install them.

Yes, these phones are capable of viewing .docx, .xlsx, .pptx files. Please mark that, only 2010 MS Office version files are supported.

If you are worried about sending or sharing your documents like photos, then you can find a share option below each photo which you can show-up by a short swap from down to up. You can add up any account. Link your facebook, twitter e-mail id and several other accounts and share them instantly.

And about the PC connection, whenever you'll try to connect it to a PC, a pop-up will show up with options like DATA STORAGE, MODEM CONNECTION, PC SUITE. Choose a suitable option and hope that will help.

Hope I've helped many of you.

Thanks

Re: HOW TO BACKUP THE NOKIA ASHA 501

BACK-UP YOUR CONTACTS.

Go to contacts > Swipe up the options from bottom > Select "Copy Contacts" > Select "Export from Phone" > Select any option "SIM 1", "SIM 2" or "Files">

If you chose any of the SIM(s) then the contacts will get backed up in your SIM Memory which is limited but secure.

If you choose "Files", you'll get two options again, "Phone Memory" and "Memory Card". Choose any option, select and folder and there you go. ASHA 501 will create a .vcf file for you.

If you wish to restore the back-up later then you'll have to tap on it. Its as simple as that. Select "yes" to proceed, else select "no".

Thanks.

No problem with device being recognised by Mac OSX 10.8.4 as a modem either.

Re: Nokia Asha 501 compatible with Nokia Suite?

Its the second time i read that the Asha 501 supports reading office 2010 files (docx, xlsx, pptx), but i cant open any of these files. Should there be a document viewer app anywhere on the app list?
