N900: Check balance key combination (number beings with *, ends with #) don't work

Have you used the following key combination in N900?

If the number begins with * and ends with #, its NOT recognized as a valid number. Instead I receive a message "Incorrect Number".

The problem is this. My mobile service provider has given me a number to check my balance and last 3 call charges by dialing the following numbers:

*142#

*143#

But the above numbers are identified to be invalid in Nokia N900. Please help!!

This issue might be specific to the N900. Place your question on the Maemo board.
