N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

I'm seeing lots of posts about problems with the "No gateway reply" message when using WLAN on the N95. I too had this, but this simple trick fixed my problem.

Create your connections as normal (using WLAN Wizard, Define Access Point etc).

Now all I did was open up "Settings", go to "Connection" and click on "Wireless LAN".

Now press "Options" and then "Advanced Settings" , click "Yes" to the prompt. Now change the "Automatic Configuration" to "Disabled", once done scroll down to "Power saving" and disable this.

My WLAN has been working perfect ever since! I guess there's a bug within the power saving module which probably will get fixed with an update soon.
If I have helped you, please hit the star at the bottom of my posts - it's appreciated!

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

I've found the same solution for WLAN problem on my Nokia N95 (firmware 11.0) as yours. I confirm, that the WLAN power saving module has some bug, which locks connection and sometimes freezes the phone. When I disabled the WLAN power saving, my N95 works perfect without any problems through the WLAN connection.

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

Hi all!
i do have the same problem WEB: no gateway reply
i had the luck to test three different setups in three different places:

1- At work we have a share WIFI connection set up is as follow:
Network status: public
WLAN network mode: infrastructure
WLAN security mode: Open network
no advanced settings
2- At the hotel we have free WIFI with the same setup:
Network status: public
WLAN network mode: infrastructure
WLAN security mode: Open network
no advanced settings
3-At my friend place there's a secured network with WPA/WPA2 setup:
Network status: public
WLAN network mode: infrastructure
WLAN security mode: WPA/WPA2
no advanced settings

the only place i can browse is at the Hotel this is why:
At the hotel the connection is totally free no login page no secured connection therefore the phone connects and opens the webpage immediately

At work, with the same WIFI configuration as the hotel I can’t browse because:
Once the phone connects and the browser try to open the page the router wants to reroute me to the login page but the phone never get there

At my friend place I cant connect at all!:
The phone after typing the shared key immediately stops with an error message

I’ve to say that before the last firmware update 11 I could browse the work WIFI no problem
I also have a colleague which is using N80 with no problems at all LUKY HIM!!!
You don’t know how long he has been laughing at my FACE!!!
I did try the to turn off the WLAN power saving no chance that is NOT THE PROBLEM
Off course I cant tell to the company or to my friend to mess up with their routers CAN I

Some smart one says that there is a bug on the client DHCP of the mobile phone, practically the phone doesn’t receive any info from the AP therefore it cant go anywhere without IP and DSN with the suggestion to type CMD at the RUN window to check the ipconfig /all to edit the IP and DSN by guess but……. If I’ve got a N95 I don’t want to go out also with my laptop WOULD I????

Therefore dear support gurus and engineers when is that NOKIA is going to fix this problem????

thank you to find the time to read throu this but i'm sure we have to wait longher for an answer....
see you later

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

got a new n95 and had the no web gateway...

found the below and worked first time....

On Your NOKIA N95
1. Scan for WLAN connections and attempt to surf but obviously it wont load sso just close the browser so your WLAN connection is saved as a access point

2. Go to MENU > TOOLS > SETTINGS > CONNECTION > ACCESS POINTS > select your routers access point > OPTIONS (Top left key) > ADVANCED SETTINGS > IPv4 SETTINGS ............. At this point dont do anything yet

3. Go to your PC
4. Start > Run > type 'CMD' > In the DOS window type 'ipconfig /all'

Ok now you will notice that in the Dos window you will have your modems details like IP address and so on, you need to enter the details into your N95 on the IPv4 settings page which we left on your N95.

++ If the DOS window shows your IP address as something like 192.168.0.1 then enter a IP address on the N95 like 192.168.0.5 (just a few numbers higher)

Once all the settings are entered just save the access point and vwalla access WAP using your router access point

This worked for me so it should work for you guys too.

This problem and 'solution' is well known for the e-series and there has never been a fix! If you use VoIP and the phone is connected to the WLAN all day then you will end up with a very hot phone and a flat battery.

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

I have fixed the problem by updain the
firmware from series 11 to 12.

Note one important thing: Although Nokia
has provided updated firmware, it is only
availble on your particular network if
the network has itself done an update.
If your network version is not up yet, the
only way out other than waiting is to
debrand your E95 (ie. install generic
non-network software and then re-establish
all your network connections).

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

I have just bought an N95 with V12 firmware already on it. I checked the web for a newer version and the one nokia told me was for my phone was V11 so I was more up to date.

I am still having problems with the "No Gateway Reply" issue having tried all the posts so far.

My Router is a Belkin MIMO 54G and works fine on 2 laptops, and a HP IPAQ PDA.

Router set to DHCP IP range 2 - 100.

Set phone to 149, 150 and 120. No good on either.

Are you using auto DNS with manual IP settings or are you using manually defined DNS settings with your Version 12 firmware?

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

I also have an N95 from an O2 shop with version 12 firmware which contains a Product Code that Nokia's own website firmware checker says version 11 is the latest. I also have the Gateway no reply problem and have spent far too much time mucking about trying to make the **bleep** thing connect to the LinkSys router I happen to want to use this afternoon. Is that dumb and totally timewasting or what? Nokia you should be ashamed of yourselves (again). Why do you release flakey products and then deny they are flakey, letting people believe it might be their router which is the problem and other such crass ideas?

I also have a Nokia 9500 which connects just fine to any router I like when I like.

So why is there no proper solution to this N95 problem posted yet?

To those of you who have against the odds managed to fix your own well done, but please realise that the number of variables associated with the problem is too great for your own fixes to work for more than a sample of us suckers out here wasting our lives trying to make a piece of Nokia branded junk work in obvious ways.

I remember I did exactly this in the days of the 9000 and 9110 to help CompuServe users like myself around the world get connected in one of the most obvious ways possible at the time. Tens of hours I spent on it. And no-one at Nokia was interested. I am not going to do it again. I am just going to tell anyone that's interested in the N95 what a piece of over-hyped junk I think the thing is.

Nokia makes my blood boil at their intransigence and total indifference to existing customers.

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

Does your N95 have original Nokia software on it or is it telephone company eg. Orange or
Vodaphone software?

If it is not proper Nokia software, you may need to install the Nokia software over it -- this involves a somewhat involved procedure, but is possible.

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

Hi m0scb,

did you disable the power save feature from the phone already? How is your Belkin access point configured (authentication, encryption, ssid, channel, 802.11 b/g, allowed rates)?

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

Hi timou

I have indeed already disabled the power saver feature.

My belkin is setup to DHCP ip's from 2-100. I am using 128bit WEP encryption. It is on 802.11 B and G due to my lower spec wireless card in 1 of my laptops. SSID is set to not broadcast. For the purposes of finding it I turned it back on.

I have manually set my IPS's DNS server ips into the phone, after all the auto settings seems to give no joy. The only thing I have not had a chance to check yet it turning WEP off altogether due to lack of time. There is no authentication being used.

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

I would guess it has O2 firmware as all the internet 3G settings are for the O2 network. Although it was advertised as unlocked.

How do you go about getting the original Nokia software for it?

[ Edited ]
Hi,

when you have time, try with no encryption, ssid broadcast, B only and different channel (1 or 7 or 11) for starters. If it begins to work, build from there, step by step, to the direction you want.

Furthermore, as manually configured, what are the phone's default gateway and subnet mask? If connection to AP succeeds, is the phone visible in the AP's management webpages, eventhough you get no gateway reply? Can you ping the IP of the phone from one of your laptops when both phone and laptop are connected to the AP?

You have to change the product code from
O2 to a generic one., and then go to the
Nokia site and do a software update: the
O2 software will be overwritten by the
generic Nokia stuff.

I had Orange, and it was preventing WiFi
use before I got rid of their software.

you may affect the warranty of the product by making changes
like this...

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

The gateway problem occurs with some routers only.

The real solution for the "No Gateway reply" is exactly what epic mentioned in his post.

U have to put the gateway on the phone manually by editing the tool – setting – connection - Access point – (select your access point) - option – edit – advanced – Ipv4 – manual

And give the phone a static IP address (must be with the same range of the wireless router that means have the same first 3 sets of number e.g (192.168.1.xxx) and define net mask (255.255.255.0)
Then define the gateway by using the router IP address eg( 192.168.1.1)
And again use the same IP (192.168.1.1) for the DNS address

This 4 sure works if u have the NO GATEWAY REPLY problem.

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

I tried playing with those settings without
success. In any case, that might fix service
with your own router, but will not deal with
problems when trying to use internet hotspots and so on -- the answer for that is to load the latest original Nokia software and get rid of the corrupted versions supplied by Orange, O2 or whatever...

Re: N95 WLAN "No Gateway Reply" - Possible Fix

Does anyone know if this is an issue with the software supplied by the mobile provider "three" as well? I have a separate thread regarding connection of a N95 to a Mac Mini and seem to have hit a wall on this site, on the apple discussions forum etc. I know wifi works as I was successful at my brother-in-laws but I cannot use it with my mac or hotspots....
any ideas would be appreciated.
