lumia 800 internet sharing problem: "connection not shared"

Internet sharing was working even a few days back when I tried using it. But jst a day back when I tried it, I got the following message:-
" Connection Not Shared. There's a problem with the current settings."
I checked mobile network, net was switched on,WiFi was off, tried using Net via various apps, they all worked fine. tried to reset the network settings using nokia's network setup.Tried restarting and soft resetting too. it is still not working.
Please help. I need a solution other than a hard reset.

Hi rianext,

Welcome to the Nokia Discussions Board!

Try to deactivate your mobile data by settings> cellular/mobile network> data connection. Reboot the phone (re-insert the simcard) and then turn on you data connection.

Let us know how you get on and feel free to post any other questions you may have.

Regards,

Thank you for your reply.I tried out the steps that you suggested. Internet sharing is still not working. Mobile net on the phone is working perfectly as usual. What do you recommend I do next?

Re: lumia 800 internet sharing problem: "connection not shared"

We may have to call your network provider and ask for the APN settings and set it up manually on the phone. And to further isolate the case, we can try to connect to a different computer.

Re: lumia 800 internet sharing problem: "connection not shared"

I already did set up the APN settings manually long back. Internet on the phone wouldn't work otherwise would it? And the problem isnt with a particular computer am trying to connect to. Its with the phone cause it wont even let me enable Internet Sharing, let alone try and connect with a PC.
should I perhaps take it to Nokia care? All I want is a fix without a hard reset.

Re: lumia 800 internet sharing problem: "connection not shared"

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I would rather have to perform a hard reset first before bringing the phone to Nokia Care. Syncing your data using the Zune software is highly recommended. Or you can check for SW updates as well using Zune. You can check this link for the steps on how to update your phone's software.

Re: lumia 800 internet sharing problem: "connection not shared"

I discovered just now that i have lost my Wifi functionality on my lumia 800 too. when i switch on the functionality the phone apparently seems like it is searching for wifi connections but it doesnt detect any, including the default Wifi connection i use, even though the signal is strong. Seems i have lost both wifi detection as well as Internet sharing. A few days before i found all these problem, the phone out of the blue went into a cycle of back to back rebooting. I managed to stop it finally by manually switching off the phone as soon as it finished rebooting. The problems that i have now seem to have surfaced since this incident. What do i do now?

Re: lumia 800 internet sharing problem: "connection not shared"

Hi tadeusz

Thank you for posting!

Do you have active data plan from your network provider? If yes, where you able to browse any websites using your phone?

Have you also verify from your network provider if they allow the tethering service?

Things that you can try:

1) Enable Data connection. Settings > Mobile network/Cellular > Data connection > On.

2) Disable the WiFi connection. Settings > WiFi > Off.

3) Activate Internet Sharing. Settings > Internet sharing > On.

Re: lumia 800 internet sharing problem: "connection not shared"

Hi tadeusz

If you face such issues, try the following:

Unable to establish connection:

  • On your Lumia phone, use the Network Setup app to correctly setup the network connections with your carrier. You will find the app in the Nokia Collection on Windows Phone Store.
  • Make sure your operator mobile data plan subscription allows WiFi tethering and your carrier has enabled internet sharing on the phone (if you have an operator variant). Check with your carrier for details.
  • Switch Off Battery saver mode or connect a charger.
  • The cellular network may not be in range or has a weak signal to provide a successful connection. Check the signal bar at the top of the screen to ensure you are in good network coverage.
  • Make sure that the security type and password settings match on the phone and connecting device.
  • Make sure your connecting device (e.g. laptop or tablet) allows WPA2 (AES) security connection. If possible, try to create a connection with some other device.
