Hi. I noticed this issue of usb charging not working for my n8 when i ran out of juice while using the 'connect PC to internet' through ovi suite. Everything else works fine and although usb charging is not a deal breaker for me i'd like to know if i can do something to have it. Is this a software bug or a hardware issue? My phone has already been subjected to complete wipe or factory reset.

You need enough power on the PC USB port. Not all (older) PC's support this function.

thanks for a response..i have dell studio and it is able to charge my 5730 xm..so i doubt this is the cause

hi. My n8 is perfect now. The usb charging now works. Dont know what made it happen but everything is just splendid now.

I have the same issue, it worked on the same laptop 2 days ago.

Ok, Changing the connectio moded to USB storage (Masselagring) and the phone started charging just fine. An OVI driver limitation or something ?

hi, i have N8 and i have bit problem with it. it refuse to charge using usb wall charger and usb car charger using the cable data. and i also have CA-100 usb charger 2mm from nokia, it still refuse to charge either plug to wall, computer or car. the only way to charge is using the normal wall charger. it is very annoying when i need to charge my N8 in emergency. please give some advice.

mine is not charging at all (usb or power supply). Even worse, i bougth the telephone in spain and live in brazil, so no warranty coverage. Not the only one though..

I had the same issue. I managed to find a workarounf after plugging/unplugging phone more than 3 times.

Hi everyone. Just got myself a N8 and found that it wasn't charging off the usb. Found the fix now working ok. I had to change the N8's usb setting to mass storge then it worked. Thanks

Hi had the same problem. Now works. Just changed the N8's usb setting to mass storage and it started to charge. Go into settings in menu page and click connections. Then click usb then click mass storage. All done

Changing USB to Mass storage is definitely the answer. Shame the N8 is so difficult to set up. The developers should check out the Dell Streak software, (it's too big to use as a phone).

I have noticed that when connected to USB, the battery indicator does not animate on the phone, but if you open ovi suite on the computer and check the status of the phone the battery indicator in the ovi suite animates.
