On my bus to work there is now free WLAN.

I connected to the WLAN and then to register I have to enter a code which is sent to me by SMS.

How do I read the SMS (so that I can enter it) without closing the WLAN bus service application?

Press menu open message and read your wifi will remain connected.Or simply take it down and reconnect if disconnected.

Problem is that there is no MENU option available at this point.

I can actually keep the WLAN connection up but when I return to the internet I came back to the original page.

So sequence of events is:

1. I am on the internet page where it say "REGISTER NOW"

2. I register and  the internet page changes to "ENTER SMS CODE"

3. I receive the SMS code but to read it I have to exit the Browser - I can not keep the Browser open.

4. When I return to the Browser and request that it shows me the last web page address it shows me the "REGISTER NOW" page again.

Apparently on other phones (what my colleagues have) there is a HOME key. You press the HOME key , you can then read the mail and then return to the browser as it was when you left. (A bit like toggling screens in WINDOWS if you are familar with that)

When you receive an SMS notification, don't you get any option to read it directly ?

No way out for you. Being it a s40 phone, there's no multitasking. Maybe you need to enter the number of a backup phone to continue with registration. Thats the only way which will give you access to the message without closing the browser.

..or you may try entering the code that you receive during the second attempt of registering.See if that gets accepted.

Thanks, what you say confirms what I have read on the internet - my phone does not support multitasking.
