C6-01 Mystery Plugs

On the bottom of my phone are 3 plugs.

  1. A proprietary micro USB plug
  2. A fat mystery plug
  3. A charging plug

Q1: Is there anything wrong with using a standard micro USB plug to transfer data or charge the phone where the proprietary micro USB plug is? I know it fits, because I mistakenly plugged it in there before realizing the box had a special micro USB cable included.

Q2. Is the fat mystery plug for the headphones? The box and included headphones are at home, and I have a set of ear plugs here that I could use.

Re: C6-01 Mystery Plugs

Refer Pg. 7 of the User Guide.

Would advise to use the supplied Micro USB cable even if any other fits / works ..

Re: C6-01 Mystery Plugs

You posted the info that came in my User Guide, but that doesn't really answer the question about if anything can get damaged if I use a standard micro USB plug.

That said, thanks for your answer, but I can't accept it as the solution because I still don't know if I can use a standard micro USB plug or not.

Since you are the Mobile Overlord and you do not know, does that mean that no one on the Nokia discussion forum knows?

Re: C6-01 Mystery Plugs

hi mate,

yes you can use any plain old microUSB cable with the microUSB port on the device, I don't use the supplied USB cable that came with my 920, but rather the one that came with my Sony eReader. it's the same interface etc. I think what Farby and I and others mean though is to ensure that you don't sustain any improper damage, or damage that can result from shoddily-built USB cables (from other manufacturers that some customers do pick up for other devices), it is always recommended to use official Nokia accessories with Nokia products. every company states this, e.g. Sony would say use their Sony-branded microUSB cable even though it is exactly the same as the other one you have lying around on your desk.

Re: C6-01 Mystery Plugs

Understood.

The Nokia USB connector has "teeth" on it that cause the connector to "get stuck" in the phone. I feel like I'm going to break something if I keep having to rip the connector out every time.

Re: C6-01 Mystery Plugs

the structure of the microUSB hardware is that it has the appearance of little teeth which are connectors. This is the same with every new device, after say, 50 unplugs or so this feeling disappears.....its the same with every new electronic device it feels stiff but then gets better later on. it won't damage it if that's what you're afraid of.
