Re: E7-00 Signal problem

try another sim , I had problems getting anything but an edge connection on my E7 , when I changed my sim I got full 3.5G , I really think you'll find it's a service provider/sim issue !

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

I had the same problem and changing the sim had no effect. I stood next to a window: full signal, I stood 1 metre from the window: no signal at all. Also some colleagues reported the phone losing signal after 5 minutes of talk time and also while driving etc. It seems the polling of available transmitters has a worse timeout than with previous nokia phones, I've no idea why.

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

Thank you for valuable feedback.

Could you give us some more additional info:

1. Who is the SIM provider?

2. In what kind of building do you notice this issue? In an apartment? Are there a lot of concrete walls around?

3. Is the signal reception level better if you use another phone with the same SIM in the same place?

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

yes, the power of signal on the E7 is less than other mobiles, like 5800.

with the same SIM and location, the E7 reception is weaker,

Note: the location is inside door, and signal allready week.

Compared to BB is the same Problem.

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

I have the same trouble. The Nokia official service partner in Czech (MobilASK/Arvato services) only reflash firmware. It seems to be HW dependent problem. Not all phones are involved.

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

I have exactly the same problem as this other mates.

With the same sim card on another phone (even very old phones) I have better signal comparing with the E7.

Changing position in few foots the signal change drastically.

Anyway this happens only when I am in areas where the signal is weak, but still is not normal that other phones, even older phones, get more signal.

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

same problem here have sent the phone in for service but it is no better. if you are in a low signal area the e7 gives up and goes out of service whereas the old 9300i and e72 hangs onto the network wish i hadn't joined

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

I'm not sure where you are all located, but I'm in australia and have a slightly different signal issue. The phone doesnt seem to switch between areas very well, so far as to say I can drive around my home town in Lake Macquarie and receive a 3G signal, if i drive to say sydney I can maintain full signal strength according to the phone, but it will drop back to say a GSM signal. A restart on the phone brings up the 3G signal again.

However if i have been using the phone whilst driving to sydney (hands free of course), it will change without problems maintaining the 3G Signal, and no restart required. if i dont use the phone the phone and dont restart the phone, then there is nothing else i can do to restore the 3G signal.

It seems that it just doesnt continue to check the towers correctly to establish the best signal. you may find that by restarting your phones whilst standing away from the window may also give you a better signal reception. This is certainly something i believe to do with the phone and the firmware. I keep hoping that there will be another update for the firmware on the phone sooner rather than later.

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

[ Edited ]

I recently bought a Nokia E7. While everything else works perfectly the signal on my phone is a major issue. I have setup my phone to work on 2G instead of 3G. The signal keeps on dropping even while it is placed in one place. I have 2 other nokia devices 5800 and C6 and their signal quality is just excellent. Just today I got a Flip cover and after I inserted the phone into it, it got disconnected from our local ISP Etisalat. It remained disconnected for a while until I moved it to another location around the house. I have also experienced line getting dropped while in the flip cover. I believe the signal quality on this particular model of Nokia is weak and is greatly affected by the surroundings. I am unable to tell if someone is trying to reach me on phone now.... I called Nokia Care and they told me to bring the device in. I have asked it to be replaced with an N8.

Is this issue on specific E7 produced batches or on all E7 models by design?

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

I just found out something very wierd with my E7. I tried setting it to dual mode with 3.5G and it shows a full bar!!. Not sure if this 'Signal problem' has to do with the device itself or the way 3.5G vs 2G signals are relayed from the device. Now with the 3G I would have to through compromise on on a shorter battery life and will try using Battery extender to see the results...

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

I noticed the signal bars dropping from 5 to 1 in a matter of seconds if I hold the E7 and cover the bottom right corner with my hand (portrait). Moving my hand up a little, away from that corner, and the bars go right back up. I've also noticed it likes to use 2G (Edge) more than 3G, even though my N900 stayed on 3G most of the time. Same locations of course! I can only foresee it being a problem if it clings to 2G and I wanted to zip on the Web while on a call. Oh well, we'll see.

Nokias: 232, 3210, 3330, 6230, 6101, 6021, 6126, E75, E73, N900, N8, E6, E7, N9. There's a Samsung in there somewhere too, but...we don't talk about that.

Do you have any solution for this ?????

I bought a new E7 a week ago. And I am facing a lot of trouble in signal receiving. It only works outdoor or in open areas. Hence I also found the battery time is low compare to other nokia mobiles.

I already checked with Nokia representer in Sharjah UAE and according to them the SIM & mobile is ok. Still facing the same problem, when I talk to customer care center they are asking me to operate the Phone in Dual mode (GSM + 3G) when I switched to dual it is automatically receiving data due to 3G so paying more with nothing ???? What should I do ?????

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

I wanted to update this thread. My E7 is great, I love it. But I still have that signal problem, which reminds me of the late Steve Jobs's comment "You're not holding it properly". If I hold the phone in portrait mode, covering up any of the lower section of the phone, signal drops from 3G to 2G and from 4-5 bars to 1 or 2. Moving my hand up the device in a more awkward, unnatural position, it jumps back up to 4 bards and back to 3G. Has this got something to do with the aluminum casing (as oposed to the N9's polycarbonate casing)?

I hope Nokia can look into this. BTW I'm on T-Mobile USA, but I've also tried a Virgin UK sim and the problem is identical.

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Re: E7-00 Signal problem

Hi,

I also want to keep this thread alive

as long as Nokia will give us a solution.

My E7opens 3,5G connection (for internet and e-mails) only after restarting the phone.

Then it works for some hours

and then  -  must start up again...

The problem can't be operator,

because always after restarting the phone connection will be available.

This thread was started in april

and still no solution!

My 3rd and the last Nokia phone.
