Re: E72/S60 bug: cannot type fast, letters missing during typing

I don't see the problem on my E73...but then I don't type that much or that fast. I am not a Symbian developer, but the problem to me is likely some bug in the text input API. When you're writing a program and including a text field, you're likely going to specify things like the size of the field, the font, encoding, flags to specify options like obscuring a password, etc. Or maybe there is an old and a new text API? The best solution might be to cozy up to a programmer who would be willing to write a few quick test applications, so you could try the different combinations and see what works normally and what doesn't.

Just my two cents...

Re: E72/S60 bug: cannot type fast, letters missing during typing

Hello again everybody..

I have no news from the "front" unfortutantely but I wanted to state that predictive text does not affect that bug at all.

Once you learn how to type really fast without looking at the keyboard at all, this phone is a major annoyance. Especially when you have to write lots of mail. Thanks to Profimail though this can me bypassed but still, it should work out of the box since its meant for this type of use.

I've tried multiple different applications to check if there's a solution or something that could help us forget about the problem, but every application that uses the system application for typing and not their own, faces the same problem.

Re: E72/S60 bug: cannot type fast, letters missing during typing

If I was faced with this problem, honestly, I would ask the ProfiMail guy.  He may not know how Nokia writes/compiles their software, but he knows ProfiMail.  And if he's as much a geek as many of us, he'll like a good software mystery. :smileyhappy:  Ask him if he's aware of any changes to the 3rd Edition FP2 text input API, because the all system applications exhibit a slowdown problem and ProfiMail does not.  (Does QuickOffice have a typing problem, too?  That's obviously also not Nokia software.)  Even if he doesn't know, as a customer, he should still respond to your request.

I know Nokia has some "secret" API's, for which you need to pay money to get the details.  Maybe they also recently updated their compiler, while ProfiMail uses and older version?  I think the answer is ultimately going to be something like that.  Good luck!!!

Re: E72/S60 bug: cannot type fast, letters missing during typing

Well I actually bought myself a brand new E-5 so I took care of the problem hehe!

But as we speak Im installing E72's new firmware and I will see if the problem still exists.

Other than that, E5 feels a lot better while doing pretty much anything. It doesnt freeze whatsoever, it has more RAM available, and typing is a lot better.

Its only the feel of the phone that makes it a bit cheaper but who cares, it wins in functionality.

Nope, no changes at all even with the new firmware installed.

Well done Nokia!

Re: E72/S60 bug: cannot type fast, letters missing during typing

It doesnt solve the problem. Its not about slow typing. Its about missed characters when you hit a sequence of buttons.

Read the whole thread please, its quite a bug.

Re: E72/S60 bug: cannot type fast, letters missing during typing

As nobody seems to have noticed the difference, I thought I might make a short post here regarding the letter-swallowing-problem on the Nokia E72.

First of all, it's definitely a real problem and it says a lot about Nokia that such a basic bug could slip through quality assurance without anybody giving a d or even noticing it - I don't know which is worse. And then there are the general stability problems of the OS and the low memory, probably due to some useless UI-caching.

That said, however, after some hesitation I updated my E72 from firmware 54 to 73 and must say that so far I am surprised, as it seems the OS got a work-over by someone who actually pays attention to details. The only thing I am not yet sure about is battery life when on dual-net-mode in a low-reception area. And it seems that Wikitude doesn't work anymore, I guess it's a QT problem. But the browser is better and all in all the UI feels a bit snappier.

Anyway, coming to the actual point: The letter-swallowing-problem seems to have been solved.

I sincerely hope the person who made this happen was not let go at Accenture, while I hope quite a few quality assurance and middle manager people have.

Anyway, great to be able to type like on my E71.

Has no-one else had the experience that the 'can't press some keys at the same time' letter-
swallowing-bug has been fixed? Hmpf, I thought there are like 100.000 plus people using the Nokia E72. I sometimes feel I am one of the few people annoyed by these kinds of bugs.
