Nokia E6-00 - Onscreen Options and Back Buttons Not Working - Rest Area on Display Working

Hi,

Guys, I am really stuck with this problem of mine. I am unable to use the onscreen back and options buttons that are on the bottom of the screen. The rest area on the screen works without any problem. However, it is the bottom line that does not respond at all.

First I thought my external memory card is the problem creator. I removed it and it worked but again I started facing the problem.

Next, I did the backup thru Ovi. After the backup was complete thru Ovi, the phone restarted and the bottom area worked. However, I was on my pursuit to do factory reset. When I continued with, the bottom area again stopped responding. I formatted the phone and still facing the same problem. As of now, the bottom line on the screen simply does not respond. Please help me.

Thanks,
Anvin

Have you thought of re-installing existing device software using option within Nokia Suite > Tools > Software updates and then try device before restoring any backup?

If I've helped in any way, a click upon the white kudos star would always be appreciated.

Maybe a visit to your local Nokia Service Centre could help - especially if its still under its 2 year warranty.

Re: Nokia E6-00 - Onscreen Options and Back Buttons Not Working - Rest Area on Display Working

Guys,

I had gone to the Nokia Care Center and they told me it would cost Rs 4,400 (81USD or so) to get the whole touchpad replaced. Are they talking about replacing the touchscreen/glass digitizer?

The price they have quoted is way too costly.

hi mate,

repair at Nokia Care is the only way that you will get to keep your phone under warranty, if the warranty is still applicable. if you wish to get your phone repaired elsewhere, it may be cheaper but you won't be covered under warranty. the choice is up to you, though in some cases due to the cost of repairs it may be cheaper to buy a new handset.

Re: Nokia E6-00 - Onscreen Options and Back Buttons Not Working - Rest Area on Display Working

My phone is out of warranty. They were saying that they will be changing the keymat as well. I was thinking whether it was required to change the keymat or it just a part of their service to replace the entire thing.

it is entirely up to you mate, but i think that the keymat and all of that would need to be changed as a precaution or because it is linked to the touchscreen assembly. i'm not a technician, so you will need to ask them specifics. like i said, may be cheaper to buy a new phone instead, if the repair cost is prohibitive.
