Hi scsi
At this point in the process after firmware has been downloaded to temporary folder on PC, Nokia Software Updater has to disconnect from PC Suite mode connection to a BB5 ADL loader and as this is not happening for some reason the process times out. You don't say which Windows version you are using, but if installation of Nokia Software Updater application goes wrong it can be difficult to sort out due to corrupt registry entries left behind unfortunately.
If I've helped in any way, a click upon the white kudos star would always be appreciated.

Hello,
i have the same issue, tried OTA, with NSU (W7, virtual XP clean install, XP - laptop, desktop PC, lots of USB slots, localized version of NSU) but still it cries out that i should plug the phone directly to the USB. Annoying. Any advice?

I do also experience that error.
I've tried to uninstall all Nokia applications, sw updater, Ovi suite incl. usb cable drivers, but im still not able to update the firmware.
The update process has worked fine until now.
Looks like a generel problem with that update!
OS: Windows 7 Enterprise
HW: Lenovo ThinkPad T410
Help!

Hello.
I have the same problem when I tried to update to the latest version.
When I spoke to Nokia Support they told me that there is a problem i you try using an USB-connection on the front of a desktop computer since they are using a USB-hub and are not "real" USB-connection.
They told me that a number of users have been helped by using the USB-connections on the rear of the computer instead.
Very strange solution and it didn´t help me but I thought I let you know anyway since it have helped others.

Hello
I have the same problem to update. When using Software Updater I get the message that the USB-cable should be connected direct to the computer which it is. If I try to update from the device I get the message that there are no updates available. But when I enter the product code I can see that 211.12.01 should be the latest. So something must be wrong with this version.

I have the same problem with the update. Is there a way to download the 211.12.01update manually?
2010-08-11 9:33
it will be very good when we can download the update manually.
İ dont know if you have any problems with the network. i have 2 nokia phones.
the one is nokia 6230i
and the other is e75
if i put in my simcard in to nokia 6230i and cruise with my car, i dont have any problems with network.
with e75, i often get lost the connection to the network.

Sounds like Nokia is buying time with the usb port explanation.
I've tried on 3 different laptops with different cables, all connected directly to the pc. Used Software Updater, Pc Suite & Ovi Suite on both W7 and XP OS.
Also tried on 3 different E75 phones.
Nothing works.
Lets hope Nokia fixes this issue soon.

Hmmmm,
I would suggest this:
- backup your device with OVI or PcSuite
- exit OVI or PcSuite completely (click on the icon in the try and choose "exit")
- download the Nokia Updater Software from nokia and have a try
- unplug the phone
- if you keep having this error hard reset your phone with *#7780# this will erase your phone completely and put it back to factory default
- start OVI or pcSuite and choose "connect phone" , do not plug it in unless the screen tells you.
- accept the software updates on the phone
- close OVI or pcSuite completely
- start nokia updater and update
- if that fails also I ran out of ideas.
