Hi FaaBruno,
You mention that you installed VoIP on your E72. Could you possibly tell which VoIP provider you are using ( if you are in Europe)?
Thanks in advance!

i suppose that is not important for the issue... i use a voip provider with sip protocol www.olimontel.it it works very well with my nokia e71 and now with e72 the voip function is improved...
but this issue is very tiresome...

I am also trying to use SIP calls on my Nokia E72. The proposed solution does not work since the option "Default net call service" does not exist in the settings menu. This must be a firmware bug of the E72.
When I go to my contacts list, click Options > Settings > Contacts, only the following options appear:
* Contacts to display
* Default saving memory
* Name Display
* Remote search server
I think this should be logged as a bug with a high priority, since it makes it impossible to call SIP calls with the E72.
And yes, I have configured a SIP provider and got the status "connected to service".
Software version: 021.024
Software version date: 17 Oct 2009
Language set: 02.01
Model: E72-1

You are right the call priority option is not where it is supposed to be on this phone, so my proposed solution above does not work but somehow I cannot edit in my post above it so here is my new solution now that I've been using the phone for a few days:
Go to "Internet Settings" (the new Icon appearing in Control Panel after you install VoIP settings 3.x)
Don't go to Advanced VoIP Settings in that menu, just scroll down until you find the choice corresponding to the VoIP service you're using in the list ("Gizmo VoIP settings" for example), open it
"Default Service" should be the first choice there: set it to NO
Although my VoIP service is always on (SIP profile settings) when I'm indoors with a WLAN at hand the phone it still uses GSM as default call service to place a call.
Unlike with previous versions, using VoIP as default service is just not an option if you intend to use the phone outdoors : it asks for too many confirmations and ends up not making the call at all, driving you crazy if you're in a hurry !! Most professionals for whom this phone is intended are...
As a VoIP provider I have to say I'm pleased with the flexibility/reliability/stability and more importantly the quality of this SIP client, but I just wish Nokia would make it easier for the rest of the users out there with a configurating tool for example: getting it to work right is a headache when you have so many settings (and the fact that the VoIP settings 3.x is not installed on the phone by default is ... puzzling to say the least).

Thank you for pointing me to the SIP_VoIP_3_x_Settings application. I had no idea that I needed to install a separate application, since the SIP settings were already in the phone.
However, I am not getting it to work correctly. I am able to log in (register) to my SIP account (I am using voipcheap.com). But I am not able to place a call. When trying to call to a number, the phone displays calling [number], but nothing happens. I have tried changing the priority of the codecs, puting PCMA (G.711) first, but no luck. I don't think it is the VoIP supplier (voipcheap.com) that has an error, since it works to place VoIP calls on my Nokia E71 with the same account. Any input on how to solve this? Did anyone manage to place a VoIP call using the E72?
Another really annoying thing is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to disconnect from the net after doing "deactivate service" in the contacts > left arrow > pick voip service > options > deactivate service menu. Even if I go to the connection manager and choose to close connection (WiFi or GPRS) the phone automatically connects again after a second. And yes, my SIP settings > registration is set to "When needed". The only workaround seems to be to turn off the phone and turn it on again. Extremly frustrating. It seems like the SIP service remains connected in the background, even though I did "deactivate service" and the VoIP icon disappeared.

Yes, some people have been able to use VoIP on the E72. I successfully tested 3 different SIP providers and now use one of them all the time. however I admit I have spent hours on it (whereas it had taken me considerably less time on other devices such as E61, N95, E90 and N85. One of the reasons for this is the absence of a configuration tool (already true on the older devices) but also -as you rightly point out- the bug on the E72 VoIP client which doesn't allow you to unregister manually from a SIP service. I had to turn the phone into Offline mode and reboot it in offline mode each time I wanted to try a setting.
In my experience you should leave the SIP profile settings (in Advanced VoIP settings -> VoIP services) as they are by default unless your SIP provider's RTP port range don't fall into the Default Nokia port range (49152-65534). Same goes with codecs: the VoIP gateway will negotiate whatever is available on the Nokia, I don't think you should worry about it.
Therefore, to try to solve your issue I would advise to go back to SIP settings, make sure your proxy and registrar settings are the same and choose "always on" for registration, at least to get it started; that's how I got it to work myself.

Hi,
I am having quite some difficulties with VIOPon my E72, too.
I have been using sipgate on my E71 for over a year now with only minor problems.
On my E72 it now seems very buggy. Most of the times:
- I can't hear the other side wen placing a call.
- Call is in really bad quality
Help appreciated.
I can also use VOIP without installing the VOIP Settings Tool via : Settings -> Network Settings -> Download -> Sipgate

I have same Nokia e72 same firmware and there is no menu - internet call like it ised to be at Nokia e71.
I was able to setup SIP with Callcentric.com and Callcentric can see I am online with e72, but there is no way I can make internet call.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I had this problem also with one of the services I tested on E72.
1. check that you have the same settings in Proxy and in Registrar SIP settings, if not try it that way.
2. if your SIP provider settings for X.lite have the "use outbound proxy" option on, use that outbound proxy IP address as a proxy address in your SIP settings

I have experimented with this service and I find it completly useless because of the following reasons:
1) Out of ~20 calls, only one has actually had a successful connection. The rest just hang on "calling ...". Getting 5% of the calls through is not acceptable.
2) Connecting to the VoIP service (activate service under phonebook) takes 1-2 minutes and only manages to connect 50% of the time.
3) When disconnecting from the VoIP service it is impossible to disconnect from the WiFi or 3G connection. Only workaround is restarting the phone.
I wouldn't blame the VoIP provider, since the same VoIP account works perfectly on the E71.
Anyone out there who is using this service without the above problems? Could you please post all your VoIP settings?

Hi,
I also have some problems with VOIP on my new E72.
I installed the VOIP Settings application and I am able to register with my service provider.
I have no problems placing a call. However, call quality is really bad (impossible to communicate)
It just breaks up with intermittent pauses of varying lengths.
E71 under same conditions works fine.
Anyone, any ideas?
Thanks

I think I will open a new thread for this but after a couple of weeks of usage here is my conclusion:
- no incoming calls : I don't get incoming calls on either E72 or E52 or XM5630 (with same SIP profiles settings as on my N95 N85 or E61 which do work perfectly). My SIP servers don't find me when I'm on E72/E52/XM5640.
- unreliable voice connection: not on every calls but I do loose voice (both ways) from time to time after a couple of minutes or so (the signalling stays connected but there's suddenly no media)
I have no solution to propose yet; I think Voip Settings for FP2 is screwed up. That's a shame because VoIP that was the only reason left for me to keep the buggy phone.

For your information:
The E72s VoIP-Client-Integration (SIP) is just perfect.
However, it needs a perfect "Setup & Configuration".
It's not the customers' job to setup the VoIP-Part of the phone!
Every so-called VoIP-Provider should offer a perfect configuration to his customer.
Look how it works:
It's a N85 shown in the video, but it's the same, optimized procedure for the E72.
You can contact me for a demo on your E72.

Hi Markilou,
Looks like we have the same problem. I don't get incoming calls either.
Outbound calls still with bad quality in both directions. Sometimes OK for the first minute.
Would be nice to find the answer to this.
The only odd thing is that when I set up the VOIP profile, it asks if I want to setup presence settings, and if I select no it doesnt do anything and just hangs for a few minutes.
