Hi,
After installing the update suggested by the app store notification, Nokia maps won't start up. I get an error message which says that I can try to buy the app or may need to uninstall/install it. The buy option takes me to the app store where i can download the free app. The uninstall/install does not work after multiple attempts. This renders any app that uses nokia maps useless. For example Nokia city lens.
Has anyone else seen this issue / know the root cause or solution? I saw that someone else reported it on WPcentral today. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
-A.

I have the same problem.
Navigation with Nokia Drive+ Beta works, but other apps with maps don't.

I too have had this problem on my 920 after the update.
Tried uninstalling, restarting and installing with the same outcome.
Any ideas?

@Doddsy1975
Have you tried resetting device in settings > about > reset device and starting again?
You don't say whether this is ATT or Euro version of 920.

I upgraded to the Lumia 920 yesterday from a Mango device and i am getting the same problem. I am now on the UK EE 4G network and to say I'm a little disappointed is an understatement. I can't believe that i would need to hard reset my phone which i have spent hours setting up and installing all my old apps just to get this to work. Come on guys give us a fix please.

@aspergergy
Yes have just restored device but once it installs all my apps it installed the latest version of maps and yet again it wont work.
My 920 is with EE in the UK.

Same here - after a factory reset, a Nokia Maps upgrade is offered in the Store, along with several other Nokia apps. After this upgrade, the same "uninstall/buy" prompt is shown every time; there's no way to use Maps.
I hope there will be a new version of Nokia Maps soon which will fix this.

I have this exactly same problem with an unlocked Lumia 920 bought from Finland. I urge Nokia to please create a hotfix update for this as the Nokia Maps is an important app for this phone and I don't think many users (including myself) will accept a hardware reset as an option. Especially after just spending an hour or two putting all the settings in place and downloading apps etc.

Same problem here. Phone is less than 6 hours old. Installed Drive+ Beta and it still works and it can access the offline map that I downloaded when Maps was still working, but Maps just keeps giving the Problem with app error.
I've done the install, uninstall, restart thing, but nothing works.
Not the greast way to start off with a brand new, supposedly top of the range phone.
As this is suppose to be your flagship phone, please let us know what is going on.
Thanks,
Chris

Same problem here ![]()
Saw the update and thought it would be a good idea to install. Maps 2.9 was working fine before this (and a brilliant piece of software too!). Please either back out or put 2.9 as a seperate download. The 920 itself is great btw but I can't accept that to clear this issue I would need to do a full rest.

Same problem here in canada! It was working fine yesterday before the update. :-(

Sorry, there was some problem with the Nokia Maps app at MS Store but the issue should now be fixed. Please remove Nokia Maps and try reinstalling from Store.

Works like a charm now, thank you very much for the fast fix! ![]()

Sorry PJ,
update doesn't seem to be visible yet - still suffering issue.
The current version available on the store shows
last updated 08/11/2012
Version 3.0.113.8
Suspect it may take a bit of time for the store to repopulate ![]()
BTW I do think that Drive+ is excellent - top marks there! Even if it is still classed as a Beta and sucks battery in its current release

The fixed version wasn't an update but rather just a fixed install package. So you need to remove your broken Nokia Maps install and then re-install it from the Store. That fixed it for me.
UPDATE: I heard from someone (maybe affiliated with Nokia) that the updated package may take a few hours to be available to all users. So it seems you were correct about your repopulation assumption. ![]()

Yes, as suggested above, it may take a few hours before the issue gets globally fixed. So, if Maps still fails, wait for a while and try again.

All fixed here in the UK now, thanks very much guys.

Mines working now
- yin008 I had the same problem as you and I think the install leaves latent data after a failed attempt at startup so the method to use is as aajiix said:
1, Uninstall Broken Nokia Maps
2, Install Nokia Maps from the Store
3, Do not attempt to run the app at this point, just uninstall Nokia Maps again
4, Install Nokia Maps from the Store for a final time
5, Job done Nokia Maps should now be working ![]()
Well done to the Nokia software team for resolving this issue so quickly. Other high profile manufacturers wouldn't give a core application issue the time of day.
