After updating Maps 2 days ago, I have been unable to use them.
I get a message "connection failed - access denied".
Has anyone else had this problem?
I have also tried to log onto Ovi Maps on the web but keep getting "error on page".

Did you update Ovi Maps app or the map data? Are you on V3.06?

I updated the maps when prompted on Ovi Suite. The version on the phone is V3.04.

So I gather you updated the map data.
I suggest trying the following. Using File Manager, delete the Cities folder and the qf file from the mass storage or memory card, whichever you selected to save map data. Then start Ovi Maps once before connecting to pc and Ovi Suite to download the requitred map data again.

There is always the option to upgrade to OVI Maps v3.06 pre-release at Nokia Beta Labs as you can now download maps directly to device via WLAN obviating need for a PC.

How do I upgrade to V3.06 if Ovi suite says the maps are upto date?

Go to this site: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-306 sign in with your Nokia account ID and password and follow download instructions for the application.

Now working on V3.06 OK but still has message on startup "connection failed - access denied".
If I uncheck "assisted GPS"in application settings, this message does not appear but does not work inside buildings like it used to.

You bet this error message is Agps and network based are enabled in positioning methods but you don't a mobile data access point set up or you have set connectivity to Wlan only. By doing so you are denying Agps access to the mobile data acces points, hence the error message. Either disable those positioning methods or switch the connectivity option to always ask. You can find the setting at Settings:Connectivity>Settings>Data use in home network.
Since you appear to want to use it inside a building then I suggest you allow the phone to use mobile data.
Please note that V3.06 is still beta so you expect bugs. it would be no harm to read about them on betalabs so you know what to expect.

I have followed your suggestion and the message "connection failed - access denied" is now NOT appearing! Yippee!
Maps are now able to locate my position indoors as well as it did at first before the original update.
Thanks everyone for your help and Merry Christmas to all.
