Re: Nokia 5800 Car Navigation

Okay guys,

this is strange. After deselecting other methods of positioning (leaving on assisted and integrated GPS), the software  managed to calculate a route from A to B 2 times. I did this at home and tought it was okay

To my surprise when I wanted to use the navigation in my car a few days later the fault was back and till nowadays I still am unable to use the phone's carnavigation

Re: Nokia 5800 Car Navigation

This works for me (Nokia Xpress Music 5800):

Today deleted e:\CITIES\ + qf-file with the phone's file manager, started GPS application to let it rebuild folder structure (E:\cities\...) and hooked the phone up with the PC in PC Suite mode. Nokia Suite has been updated to V 3.7.22. I downloaded the maps to my phone with Noki Suite. The fault 'Cannot start navigation from this location' has disappeared and navigation calculation from point A to B  is up and running again.

Re: Nokia 5800 Car Navigation

The fact is that the updated maps released by Nokia are non compatible with the Symbian devices (5800, 5230, C5-03, ....).

As temporary solution Nokia has replaced the updated maps 00.02.47.103 with the old maps 00.02.46.103 (April 2012 release?).

Here there are two questions:

1) Nokia has been unable to promptly inform their clients about the problem and the temporary solution.

2) Nokia has not yet provided any prevision about the time needed to really solve the problem: i.e. to provide updated working maps for the Symbian devices.

This is not a correct practice towards the customers. I hope that Nokia will change these bad habits.

Last but not least, it would be nice if Nokia would provide for each map the date of release.

Hi everyone,

We are sorry that some of you have been inconvenienced by this situation. The latest version of our Nokia Maps application for some of our Symbian S60 models has caused a conflict with the latest version of the map data. This is causing Maps not to start up properly in offline mode.

Our Maps team have the matter under investigation, in the meantime the workaround offered by my colleagues in this thread will get your Nokia Maps service running again. Until the conflict between the software and the data has been resolved, Nokia has switched off Nokia Suite’s access to the latest maps data for the affected phone models; this means that when you re-download your maps you will get the previous version of the data which is not affected by the software conflict:

  • Delete the folders “Cities” and “qf” from your phone’s memory card or mass memory.
  • Start up the Maps application in your phone, this automatically recreates the folder structure ready to download the data, then close it again.
  • Connect to Nokia Suite and download your map data.

When our colleagues in the Nokia Maps team have identified the cause of the conflict, the solution can be made available for download as a further update to the Maps application, after which time we can also make the latest map data available once again.

We assure you that Nokia does take matters like this seriously and is working to resolve this concern for our customers. For the time being, we can only recommend that you use the workaround that we have provided whilst we work to ensure that the situation is properly solved, and that you accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Re: Nokia 5800 Car Navigation

Hi everyone,

I have heard there is a new version of 0.2.49.104. Does this version really really work without any internet connection? Or is the problem of version 00.02.47.103 still there? I mean the message of (navigation cannot start at this location).

Many thanks
