[Nokia Maps 3.09] "Shorter route" not the shortest?

Hello.

It appears that Nokia Maps on my Nokia 700 phone doesn't pick the shortest route even when set to "Shorter" route in the "Route section" settings.

 

I have found that the software has picked a longer route that would have me leave the highway I am on, for a would appear to be a longer or a pointless route (this shouldn't happen not matter what setting).

 

Around town, I have chosen what I think is the shorter route than what Maps tells me, to have this confirmed by the recalculated distance-to-destination after I make my turn.

 

Personally, I would rather wait a few more seconds for a far more optimal route to be calculated. Does anyone else have a similar problem?
