Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

Hello Nokia,

Lumia 920 user here, love the new phone. Had the Lumia 800 before.

Was glad to see an update yesterday to the maps on your WP8 applications. Israel street maps are available at last! We've been waiting for so long!

Two things I'd like to bring to your attention, if it so happens that you haven't noticed:

1. The names of the streets on the map in all applications are written backwards, end to begining. Seeing as WP8 supports BIDI wonderfuly, this shouldn't be to hard for you to fix.

Attaching a screenshot of this issue. Please notice that the name of the street I'm on does show up correctly. Only the map text is backwards.

2. "Sorry, can't find your route. Navigation is not yet available in your country. Please go back."

Screenshot attached.

This is what I get when I click "Drive To" in Nokia Drive. I'm assuming you still don't have server support for navigation in Israel. How long do you think it should take?

Is this with v3.0.125.8 as not showing up in UK yet?

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

My app version is 3.0.125.8

Map data version is 8.0.48.113 - this is what has been updated.

You probably need to update the map data manually:

1. Open the Nokia Maps app.

2. Tap the [...] button and "download maps".

3. Tap the "update current maps" button. This should tell you there's an update available and let you install it.

Please note that Israel maps are not yet available for download (for offline use) as other maps are.

It's still a welcome move forward!

[ Edited ]

How did you get the streetnames to display in English?

Do you mind posting a screenshot of your Regional settings on the phone?

Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind, found the setting. If you select English as the search language in Regional options, it'll display street names and labels in English.

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

please let me and all the other israeli guys know:

1) Have you succeeded in having the maps of israel in full , functional hebrew? it's very nice to know the streets appear well in english but even more importantly, if they are in proper hebrew

2) Can you navigate successfully?

i hope that we symbian users will see this soon (nokia 701 here. hope the older nokia ones like the 5230 will too, quite a lot of them here )

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

At the moment the situation is as I've described it in my posts above.

Israel street maps are available online, not available for downloading.

Streetnames are in Hebrew, but appear backwards.

Maps are searchable, even in Hebrew.

No navigation is available. You can find an address, but not navigate to it.

1. The direction of Hebrew text is not a map issue, but an application issue. I'm guessing Symbian users shouldn't have this issue.

2. Navigation is probably not available due to the lack of servers in Israel. Should probably be fixed by the time Eurocom release the Lumia 920 and 820 in Israel. Or so I hope...

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

Hi,

I live in Israel, I have a Lumia 920, bought in france, Nokia Drive+ Beta version is 2.1.0.1451, maps version is 8.0.47.123. All the regional settings of my phone are set to France.

No update to Nokia Drive is available for me and I can't see any detail on the Israel's map when I launch the application, only the highways.

Is there any trick to have version 3.x of Nokia Drive and the Israel map ?

Thanks

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

There is no ver. 3 of Nokia Drive. Latest version is 2.1.0.1451, same as yours.

Nokia Maps version is 3.0.125.8.

To get the updated maps, open Nokia Maps. Go to the ... menu, and to Download Maps.

Tap the "update current maps" button. This should update the map to version 8.0.48.113. The new maps version will also be available in Nokia Drive.

Hi,

You're right. It's a software issue. The fix will be probably available around summer time with a system update. So far, you probably need to choose the language setting to English as  a workaround.

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

Hey there, that's what I was missing when visiting Israel this year. Great! But I can't find it on the Belle maps of my E7-00. And also here.com doesn't show any detailed maps of Israel. Do we just have to wait or is there something going wrong? Dirk

@dirksteinkamp

To avoid any confusion here map data for Israel is available for Nokia Lumia running Windows Phone 8 with maps "Online"

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

@aspergerguy thanks. Can you give some details? In my simple mind I was sort of thinking the "Online"-map-data of the lumia and symbian phones might be served from the same server (and have the same format?!? At least for Nokia Maps 3.09 on symbian...), and the data available in here.com (on the PC) would be in sync with what's available to the phones. I was assuming that because Nokia Maps on symbian recently got an update of the map data... But obviously I'm wrong. Do you have any technical details about how that is organised? Thanks!

@dirksteinkamp

Whilst I don't have any technical details, don't expect any of the rules for maps upon Symbian to appertain to those on Windows Phone. Even if Windows Phone 8 has a microSD such as Lumia 820, there is no choice to store map data here as always goes behind protected partition upon phone memory.

Re: Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive Beta + maps for Israel

Hi,

Can we expect Israel maps for Nokia Drive available for WP7.x devices (Lumia 800 in my case) ?

I hope Nokia could do this for echosystem early adopters.

Thanks
