This does not mean that no data is available, just that OVI Maps application needs to be "Online" although access point may be either Network or WLAN to download available maps.

Hi Scooby,
Have u got indices and a manual link for v3.06 (5230)?
And what is the main difference btw the v3.04 and v3.06 maps?
Just wondering if it was worth my while to upgrade to v3.06 only after getting my v3.04 to work the last month.
Thks!

How does one get the map that has been downloaded (I tried Ireland from this page from the broswer on my N8) to be seen by OVI Maps v3.06 which I downloaded from http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-306/downlo
?
The map data for Ireland didn't show up when I went to my position. It was totally blank.
I had to use my WIFI/3G to get map data which is time consuming. I also did this for Paris where I am going next Wednesday and it took quite a while!
Will the map data that I have downloaded through WIFI/3G stay on the phone for use when I go to Paris?

Hi dublinuser,
The links are are for manual uploads only.
That is u click on the link, download the maps, then manualy copy them over to your phone...
For PC users pls follow ovikovi's thread at (v3.04 maps but same instructions for v3.06): MapsManually
For MACs then follow scoobyman's thread at: MAC

The above links to manual download of map sources are not working anymore ![]()
They are redirected to:
http://maps.nokia.com/services-and-apps/ovi-maps
Pls, do you have correct links?

You are quite right that all 00.02.41.123 links are now dead although series 00.01.25.114 are still valid. Previously these maps were only available for devices using v3.06 pre-release but in the case of N8 and N97 Mini OVI Maps v3.06 is either available via OVI Suite > Tools > Software updates for N8 and via OVI Store for the N97 Mini.
This is pure speculation but I wonder whether these latest maps have now been moved to a secure server accessed via logging into OVI Suite, although in OVI Maps v3.06 Beta application on selected devices you can download directly via WLAN obviating need for PC altogether.
There is no problem obtaining 00.02.41.123 maps via OVI Suite > Maps today so not a case of maintenance over weekend.

Why does Nokia make the locations of maps secret?
Is it some kind of protection against inexperienced users that don't know what they are doing?

As I remarked it is pure speculation on my part and hopefully will be proven wrong in due course, however what would be wrong in Nokia securing an asset which costs considerable sums to maintain and offer free navigaton so that it is only accessible through legitimate Nokia or licensed applications.
It maybe no co-incidence that there is now paid application in OVI Store - Map Loader Mobile here:

Fortunately Nokia is not hidding map sources ![]()
I found that Nokia just changed the file numbering system.
For example map of Europe was (it is not working anymore):
http://static.s2g.gate5.de/map5/maploaderzip-00.02
The new URL of Europe map is:
http://static.s2g.gate5.de/map5/maploaderzip-00.02
Just replace the leading "3" with "4" in map filename - it works for all map files ![]()

Thank you for posting the results for the benefit of other users here, even though there are now more options of ways to obtain mapping than there were.

Unfortunately your C5 being S60 3rd FP2 remains currently on v3.04 so latest map set for you is 00.01.25.114
