I've just upgraded to Ovi Maps 3 with the Nokia Map Updater.
When one tries to put the app online, using Options / Tools / Go online, that results in an error that tells you that there's no Internet connection and that you should activate it in... Options / Tools / Go online.
This also makes it impossible to register or shop for any licence.
When the new free version is available for Nokia Maps 3, will it be needed to go online? Or can one use the maps on the card?
I've allready done a soft reset and uninstalled / reinstalled Ovi Maps and Licence Manager.

I have been having a very similar problem with the maps & navigation software. I have uninstalled the oldOvi maps software & have updated to the latest version of Ovi Maps.
As Per the instructions one also needs to re-install the required maps & the voice guidance.
I have uninstalled the maps & voice files using the ovi suite manager, & re installed the two files, United kingdom, & Male Voice Guidance, I decided against the female voice. I have refreshed my license details and all seems well.
The Problem: It seems that if I choose to go online when a navigation/route is set, that the maps application will abort & exit out. I am able to go online when a navigation is not active/running, & synchronize with OVI. Is this normal?
I am Not using the mobile network to go online,, I am using a Lan/wireless network via my router, which has been setup using the Tools/Settings/Internet/Default access point.
My thoughts are, perhaps I need to go online using the mobile phone network, which of course will now cost me a minimum of £2.00 on the Vodafone network.
Has anyone else experienced similar problems? or is this normal, as one would perhaps not normaly go online whilst navigating a route, whilst at home.

@Fredcrougar
Welcome to the forum!
It would seem that you are using OVI Maps v3.01 if you have purchased a navigation license, could you confirm upon what device you are using this application?It is not clear whether you have also purchased "Traffic & safety" license.
Provided that mapping has been downloaded to device you can set OVI Maps application so that "Go-online at start-up" = No
There may be a limit to how many connections can be open at one time, although no issues if I start browsing via WLAN whilst OVI Maps application has started navigating upon N95.
What Positioning methods do you have enabled?
Incidentally "Maps Booster" application can allow device inside building to acquire position extremely quickly via WLAN access point for devices using OVI Maps v3.01:http://store.ovi.com/content/16194 and more details are available here:http://www.skyhookwireless.com/mapsbooster/
