I'd think not, if world map is a file on it's own as i think.Try and look into the SD card and see if some howyou can spot different files .
But,why you fear formatting and reloading to take too much time? Formatting/deleting is a flash....then, reloading some maps isn't that demanding...

When I bought nokia e72, I have reveived lot's of maps (almost 4GB). I want to free-up my memory card by removing some of maps. I try to do it in ovi application, but there is not possibility to do that. I can see all maps that are in my phone, but how to remove some of them?

Download and install Nokia Map Loader and Nokia Maps Updater to place and remove maps from your E72.

And how to delete complete Nokia Maps application from my E72?
OVI Maps is firmware. If it's not visible in the app.mgr. you can't uninstall the app itself.

So I have to delete map by map, or I can simple delete folder cities and qf document?
One more thing, I have downloaded and installed Nokia Map Loader nad Map Updater and when I try to start one of this programs, system tells me that it can't do that because the other one program is in use!!?? But, it is not.

I've tried Nokia Maps Updater / Nokia Map Loader and also the Ovi Suite's built-in Map Loader.
It seems to me that the Ovi Suite's built-in Map Loader might be newer than the stand-alone Nokia Map Loader. So far, I use the Ovi Suite's built-in Map Loader to load maps on my E72.
(note that if Ovi Suite's built-in Map Loader is in use, then the stand-alone Nokia Map Loader won't work and will show that program is use. The same thing if you initially run Nokia Map Loader and then run Ovi Suite's Map Loader. (So you only use one of those apps one at a time).
I notice that some voice guidance files don't show up on Ovi Suite's Map Loader (nor the Nokia map loader) but instead have to directly connect the E72 to a wireless Internet (I connect wireless LAN connected to DSL) and download the updated voice guidance files wirelessly.

I borrow this thread for my problem.
Bought the non-branded E72 in Finland and installed latest FW (031.023), Ovi Suite is 2.1.1.1, and Maps 3.04. Pc has Vista Home Premium.
When I try to update Finnish map (112 MB) I get error code saying memory is full and asking to remove data from memory card. Free space is about 1 GB and memory usage for Maps is allowed to maximum (90 %). Some smaller maps (20...35 MB) was updated easily.
Any help or just to remove everything and install the needed maps?
Tnx!

How can I uninstall the map from the e72?
2011-01-22 11:17
1. Connect your phone to PC by USB cable
2. Open Ovi Suite / Maps
3. Click on All (from On your device - at the left bottom corner)
4. Wait for a while, then after Ovi Suite has shown all maps on your device, click on Delete all

Just to add that OVI Suite 3 enables you now to remove specific regional map not just ALL as before; also if you have no intention of using this application for now, you can always bin E:\CITIES as would be re-created if you open OVI Maps application again.

Updating maps will also delete any out of date map data , when a newer verion of the map is available, always worth checking on Ovi Suite or Nokia Maps updater, every couple of months !
If I have helped at all, a click on the White Star is always appreciated :
