Many users have been asking lately in a number of boards about software updates and repairs. The following has been posted by Karim regarding this matter:
Eligibility
Software updates are free under warranty if there is problem with the handset. At this time upgrades will only be offered free of charge to fix a problem. Upgrading without Network approval or when no problem exists *may* invalidate warranties.
Updates via Nokia Software Updater
It is possible to update most Nokia phones yourself. See if there are updates for your phone and learn more at
Proof of Purchase
POP(proof of purchase) shouldn't be required for many handsets. However some service points may have a standard proceedure of requesting POP - especially where the handset has been released for 12 or more months, or when purchased in another country or region.
Warranty Period
The warranty period starts at the time of Product's original purchase by the first owner. The Product may consist of several different parts and different parts may be covered by a different warranty period. Warranty periods differ around the world, please check your local Nokia website for details.
For Europe, see http://europe.nokia.com/A4144988 for Warranty Information and http://europe.nokia.com/A4144985 for the Warranty Faq
Generic software
Nokia's authorised service partners are instructed not to change the firmware variant (ie load generic firmware on to a network branded handset). Nokia cannot be held responsible for any problems, interruption of business or loss of data caused by a service partner's attempt to alter the firmware variant.
ONLY use authorized Nokia Care points - strat from www.nokia.com/repair to find your nearest engineer.
