have you tried the phone with another set of earphones, and also try blowing the earphone jack to rid it of any possible dust that may have accumulated inside. if you are still experiencing difficulties, check Nokia Suite to see if there are any firmware updates available for your device, and if there are any, to update to the latest version offered. failing that, try re-installing your current firmware thru Nokia Suite.
if that doesn't work either, then you need to take your phone to Nokia Care for inspection: http://nokia.com/support
