Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a new Nokia C6-00 phone (approximately 1 month ago) and ever since it keeps turning off by its own in various situations - no matter if the phone just lies on the table. The battery is full, the phone is not connected to any device.

A couple of minutes ago, I looked at some pictures, I locked the keyboard and put the phone on the table. A minute later, it was switched off, without any warning.

The most annoying thing is that if I want to switch it  on again, I have to take out the battery, wait a couple of seconds, then try turning it on again. Otherwise it won't work!

I installed the latest software, hoping that this would solve the problem - unfortunately it didn't.

What do you think? Is this a problem with my phone, or coult it be, that there are some other mobile phones who react the same way? For eg. I have a friend who owns a Nokia 5230 and has the same problem, only not so frequent. By the way - my phone turns off at least 2 times a day.

Any ideas? Should I directly go to the nearest Nokia service?

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

Hi, I think you should go directly to a Nokia care point yes. From what you tell, it really sounds like there is a hardware issue with the phone.

Sometimes there could be other reasons for this, faulty Simcard, faulty memory card or it can be some bad 3rd party app running in the background.

If you have installed a memory card, you could try a bit without it to see if that may be the cause, but as it is brand new, and if you haven done anything special to it, I would take it to a Nokia care point to get it checked.

Try replacing your SIM. In most cases this is the solution.

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

Thank you for your replies. I have an 8 GB memory card in my phone, but it's older, I also used it on an LG phone, so I don't think that this is the problem. But let's exclude everything possible :smileyhappy:

The problem with the Nokia Care centers is that...there aren't any!! I live in Germany in a big city and not even in bigger cities Nokia hasn't got any care centers. I looked on the nokia website and on Google, too. So this thing with the care center is a big, fat lie. Thanks, Nokia. I expected a little bit more when paying some hundred Euros on this mobile phone...

Did you replace your SIM? You say something about a memory card 8GB... I didn't mention anything about memory card.

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

@phonehacker: well, replacing a sim is not that easy - first of all, I do not have another sim card and second, if I would just take it out to see how the phone reacts, I would have to wait for hours or days, because this odd behaviour of my nokia is very unpredictible. the phone sometimes works fine for 2 days, but sometimes it turnes off every 10 minutes.

Okay then.

Did you install any application?

Of course, but before I installed any application, so when the phone was brand new, it did the same. This is why I wouldn't say it happens due to a third-party app. But everything is possible.

If you turn it on without SIM, does it reboot itself? If so, then i'm afraid you have to send it to a Nokia Care point. It's a hardware fault.

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

Hello.

Actually you are NOT the only one. i've bought my Nokia C6-00 from kuwait like 3 weeks ago.

The device shuts down automatically when i leave it idle. This has happened like the fourth time, except that i can switch it on directly without the need to replug the battery in.

I'm not sure. i will try some of the suggestions above.

Have you succeeded in solving this issue?

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

This has been happening to my phone too, and it was only bought on Wednesday! Same thing, I'll leave the phone on the table, a few minutes later I'll come back and it'll be turned off. I also have to take out the battery and put it back in to get the phone to turn on again. What also happens sometimes is that when the phone is idle and locks itself, the white light will keep flashing but I won't be able to unlock it, or turn it off by holding the end call button, but will have to do the same thing as above and replace the battery. Would the smartest idea be either to take it to my seller to register under my warantee, or go directly to a Nokia Care centre?

This also happens at least 2 times a day for me.

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

If you bought it on wednesday I would there is a chance you will get it swapped with a new one as it looks like it might be a DOA product.

Anyway, some of these wierd shutdown behaviors seems to look like some of the issues faced with the N8. And if it is, a trip down to the Nokia care point would be the only solution, or take it back to the reseller/store/shop you bought it from and make them deal with it. If it has been some time, they would probably send it to a care point, so taking it self would might save some time. But if it's brand new, I would take it back to the store first and demand a new one. It might work out.

It could be those issues I stated in my first post, but if you have tried what suggested and it does not help, or you don't want to bother a Nokia care point might be the only solution.

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

Hi friends,

We all have the same problem with the C6 of Nokia. I bought 2 phones in Oman together and regretted. Same problem I am facing, the phone goes off on its on, and even the alarm fails.Strange isn't it? I have heard of this phone hanging too and even my E72 hangs most of the time . Looks like Nokia does not care about its quality anymore since the phone started coming from China. Even N8 my friend bought and the very first day it went off. My daughter bought C6 in USA she could not go to office on time as the alarm failed to ring, and the phone hangs as well as it goes off on its own. Nokia centre does nothing, max they will change and give you a new one. Its the same thing, the new one will do the same. E72 was changed at least 3 times for me but I still face the same problem. Best is to avoid Nokia, I loved Nokia phones but now I bought Blackberry Torch. I am happy.

Re: Nokia C6-00 turning off on its own

Nokia making phones in china has nothing to do with the quality in general.

Finland, china etc. Hardware parts, manufacturing process, quality controls are the same.

Unfortunately some phones has this issue which are probably related to malfunctioning hardware parts and has nothing to to with where the phones are made.

That finland phones are better is just an old rumour that has no root in the real life.
