Firstly, never publish your IMEI number in a public forum. Anyone can come along and report "their" phone as stolen and have its IMEI blacklisted on any number of mobile networks.

Secondly, you cannot reset a S40 phone such as the 6300. You need to take it to a Nokia Care Point along with proof of ownership and they'll do the necessary.

Back up any information you have on it before having this done as it will wipe the phone clean.

Hi. I have a Nokia 6300 with me. Being a previous user of an S60 phone (Nokia 6120 classic), I know there are two types of reset: hard (resets settings and deletes personal data) and soft (resets settings only) in an S60 device. I wanted to do a hard reset on my Nokia 6300 phone and delete all my personal data along with it, or maybe you could say, format my phone, just like formatting a memory card. But when I select "Rest. factory sett." from the Settings menu, the phone states that this procedure will only reset all preference settings and not delete any personal data, whereas newer S40 devices have the option to reformat the phone. How can I reformat my whole Nokia 6300?

Even on an S60 device, both the hard reset (powering up with 3 buttons pressed down) and the soft reset (*#7370#) will wipe everything. The main difference between the two is that the phone doesn't have to be able to boot into a stable enough state to accept keypad input in order to perform a hard reset. The only thing that will only delete settings and not data is the "restore factory default settings" (*#7780#).

As stated in the post above that's marked as the solution, a reset is not possible on an S40 device, neither the hard nor the soft reset. All you can do yourself is the "restore factory default settings" by dialling *#7780# and providing your security code when prompted.

Note that what you're calling a "hard reset" is in fact a "soft reset". The hard reset is a reset in response to a hardware condition, namely 3 keys being pressed when the phone starts (usually '3', '*' and 'call' but it varies for newer models, notably touch-screen phones). A soft reset is a reset that occurs in response to a software condition when the phone intercepts the *#7370# key sequence. What you're calling a "soft reset" is merely a "restore settings".

my 6300 ran out of battery just as the alarm came on.and as u know the 6300 has a very small phone memory..so each time i switch it on it ask's me for my security code and even though i type in the correct code it just hangs and restarts automatically..is there any way of formating the phone without putting it on??

If you read what grschinon has wrote in this thread, or read what I've wrote in your other thread, - you will understand that it's not possible. For a total reset you will have to take it to a Nokia care point.

Though its not very clear..it seems the phone is NOT switching ON after a Software Update. In that case only thing you may try is remove the battery for a couple of minutes.. Insert, and see if it switches ON. Else, you may have to take the phone to Nokia Care...

will the data be completely unrecoverable such as using data recovery software when you say 'wipe the phone clean'

Data recovery software is not usable on the phone's memory, which will indeed be totally erased. Anything such as contacts, texts, calendar entries etc. that are stored in the phone's memory will be lost forever. If you have a memory card in the phone then that will remain intact, although I do advise you to remove the memory card before taking the phone in to be reset.

My 6300 just stopped recognising my headsets which r working in other 6300 phones. I hav tried restoring factory settings but cannot access da security code. Hw can i get its security master code? Its IMEI is 359538010668131

The default Security code is 12345 unless changed by you. If you have, but do not remember it the only way to get it reset is thru' Nokia Care. You may need to produce a proof of ownership (Bill / Invoice)
