Nokia Lumia 620 and Class10 microSDHC UHS-I compatibility?

Are these 2 compatible

Nokia Lumia 620

sanDisk Ultra microSDHC UHS-I 32GB

The Nokia Lumia page only mentions microSD and doesn't detail if it supports the UHS format.

This doesn't answer the question.

Are they compatible or not?

If yes then its not overkill, UHS-I's advantage over class 6 is significant and noticeable.

Not in a mobile phone.

That would be more accurate if we were comapring Class 2 to 4 or 4 to 6, the jump from 6 to UHS is bigger and if the host device is compatible(Which is My Question) and properly calibrated to accept these cards then the performance would indeed be noticeable better.

This discussion seems to be goign on a tangent, please keep on subject.

Re: Nokia Lumia 620 and Class10 microSDHC UHS-I compatibility?

You have been advised already here is something that might open your eyes a bit.

UHS Speed Class

UHS-I symbol
The Ultra-High Speed (UHS) designation is available on some SDHC and SDXC cards.[44] The following ultra-high speeds are specified:
UHS-I cards, specified in SD Version 3.01,[41] support a clock frequency of 100 MHz (a quadrupling of the original "Default Speed"), which in four-bit transfer mode could transfer 50 MB/s. UHS-I cards declared as UHS104 also support a clock frequency of 208 MHz, which could transfer 104 MB/s. UHS-I is the only class for which products are currently available.[45]
Double data rate operation at 50 MHz (DDR50) is also specified in Version 3.01, and is mandatory for microSDHC and microSDXC cards labeled as UHS-I. In this mode, four bits are transferred when the clock signal rises and another four bits when it falls, transferring an entire byte on each full clock cycle.
UHS-II cards, defined in Version 4.0, further raise the data transfer rate to a theoretical maximum of 312 MB/s.[46][47]
UHS memory cards work best with UHS host devices. The combination lets the user record HD resolution videos to tapeless camcorders while performing other functions. It is also suitable for real-time broadcasts and capturing large HD videos.
Cards that comply with UHS show UHS-I or UHS-II on the label, and report this capability to the host device. Use of UHS requires that the host device command the card to drop from 3.3-volt to 1.8-volt operation and select the 4-bit transfer mode

You have been advised already

What the heck...

I DIDN'T ASK for an Advise, read the thread post title and initial post carefully.

It was a direct and specific question, leave the buying to customers and if you dont know the answer stop hijacking the thread.

here is something that might open your eyes a bit.

Jeez, copy pasting wikipedia text with reference link numbers intact, what a noobish way to retort.

You seem like a bot. Atleast copy paste properly.

Besides that copy-pasted text along with other info on the SD wiki page clearly makes it apparent that a Class 6 card is not in the same performance league as a UHS-I, with the theoretical minimum transfer rate of UHS-I being anywhere from 5 to 8 time more than Class 6. This is theoretical ofcourse but then again, both cards will suffer similar real life performance drop so for comparisons sake the values are valid enough.

Please stop replying if you don't know the asnwer, i am not interested in knowing whether a Class 6 workds with Lumia, i want to know if the Class10 with UHS works with Lumia 620 (also Class 10 with UHS is not necessarily the same as simple Class10)

Speaking of tangents! Your attitude is a tangent that needs adjusting read the guidelines

I simply provided some info on the card, this is called help.

You have been answered twice and continue to act like a child with your petty remarks.

A class 4 or 6 card should work fine a class ten will not.

Every reply doesn't constitute as help.

Just because you reply doesn't necessarily make that comment of yours "help".

As far as attitute and petty remarks goes.

If i am goign to be replied with words like You have been advised already and open your eyes a bit, then i am afraid that person deserves a proper reply.

Copy pasting a wiki text and that too improrply is not Help, and such amaterurish pasting coupled with the talking down tone, everyone doesn't take kindly too.

I know what a UHS card is and I can read the wiki on my own.

You have been answered twice

NO, i've been replied to.

This is the first line that you wrote that is related to the topic, Thank you for your contribution.

I still await if someone else can confirm/provide information if the UHS card will work with a Lumia.

I've read in these forums and on others that Class 10 cards either work for some or don't for some but since they are still classified as microSD (they ought to work) and the offical Nokia page is very vague, i hope some Nokia offical reponds and clears this, better still update the product page with more clear information so as to avoid confusion.

Hi ivarun,

I am currently using SanDisk Ultra microSDHC UHS-I 16GB (Class 10) on my dad's Lumia 620. So to answer your question, it is compatible.

Cheers!

It would appear to me you are not looking for help, you want to hear someone say you are correct. Anything else you seem to discard as irrelevant.

If you want to know what the exact specs the microsSD slot on the 810/82x or 620 are you'll need to talk to Nokia about this. Probably the best place to start would be the developer.nokia.com site or contact Nokia Care and ask for this to be escalated to the specialists who can answer it.

All anyone here can so is quote available information resources as we are all 'just' users here and not Nokia Employees. This is a user to user support forum after all, not a 'Direct to Nokia' platform.

So use the proper channels and stop being so condescending towards people trying to provide information and/or help as best they can.

We understand what you are asking, it's just that the Class10 UHS-I specs are way beyond what is required for the purpose of the SD card in a mobile phone and so it would stand to reason Nokia does not design the interface to take this spec into account, if only for the added cost to the device. Also the MicroSD 'standard' is far from that (a standard) and there is plenty of variation..

In general a regular Class 6 microSD card will be able to deal with anything you can throw at it, with room to spare, when used in the 620 so anything above that would be overkill and would only mean you are wasting money on a more expensive card that may or may not work.

Re: Nokia Lumia 620 and Class10 microSDHC UHS-I compatibility?

Stop saying that a Class 10 micro-SD card is overkill. It is commonly available in the market and a modern smartphone should support it. Why should consumers look for older standards to be compatible? Android phones don't have this problem. Nokia should just fix it period.

Re: Nokia Lumia 620 and Class10 microSDHC UHS-I compatibility?

The main point here is UHS-I support which has no value whatsoever for use in a mobile phone. SD card class6 is not a 'older stardard' at all, it is just as current as class10. No one is saying you should not get class10 but it _is_ overkill for use in a mobile phone.

What's more important is that there are a lot of cheap bad quality SD cards and big name knock offs which look like the original one but aren't, although the price gives it away. Many of these will not work properly. Lastly, and as mentioned before, in general the specs for a class10 card can vary quite significantly between brands and so compatibility issues can crop up quite easily. With class6 this is much less of an issue which is another reason to stick with that.

Re: Nokia Lumia 620 and Class10 microSDHC UHS-I compatibility?

[ Edited ]

I'm interested in this topic as my Lumia 520 has problems playing music from MicroSD cards.

Both a Sandisk 4GB Class 2 and a Hama 16GB Class 10 experience glitches in the music every minute or so.  The same cards play faultlessly in my old Nokia feaurephone.  Orange, who supplied the 520, had me send it back for repair and I've just received it back with "no fault found".

While the phone was away, I've been reading about SD cards and what I've learned is that the Class ratings only define a sustained writing speed, but smartphones tend to read and write in lots of small chunks and some cards which can write a single large file at high speed turn out to be dismally slow when asked to read or write lots of small files.

That might explain why some Class 10 cards (which ought to be 'overkill') might actually be too slow to work in our phones.

I see that some MicroSD cards are now available labelled "mobile" or "Android", suggesting they may be optimised for the type of read/write cycles used by smartphones.

It might be possible to compile a list of cards which seem to work in Lumias and another of those that don't, but in the meantime I'd be grateful for recommendations of a 32GB card that definitely works in a 520, otherwise I'll just go by the speed comparison tests I've managed to find online.

<edit>  PS  I see I can get a Sandisk Mobile Ultra 32GB MicroSD for about 20 pounds, and if anyone has experience with that, good or bad, I'd be grateful to hear about it.

No, they are not compatible.

Just got my 620 and a sandisk 32GB Extreme card, and it does not show up at all.

I am going to replace it with a 'regular" 32GB sandisk card.

And see if that works...

Re: Nokia Lumia 620 and Class10 microSDHC UHS-I compatibility?

Here is my exprience.

Just bought a Sandisk Ultra 32GB SDHC UHS1 class10 and installed it in my 620.

When turned on it detected the new card  and I set it as the default music and picture storage. I then formated the memory card just in case.

Now the problems started. When synching music to the SD from my computer right at the end an error message stated that all transfers failed. Nothing could be found on the phone.

I snapped some photos. Nothing.

I removed the SD card and plugged it into my PC and everthing WAS on the card and worked fine. It just cannot be read by the phone.

I reinstalled my old **bleep** 4GB SD Class 6 and it still works fine.

Has anybody had the same problem?
