Antivirus needed for N9?

Hi ppls. Do you think an antivirus is recommended for smartphones in general and personally, I'm using the N9, so is there any antivirus for it? Thanks all.

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

The N9 is quite safe from viruses. It cannot get infected unless you allow it to. Hence a little common sense and the usual precautions is all you need. Do not accept connections from unknown devices and do not download and install apps from unreliable sources.

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

If it did happen, I'd just hard reset the phone, but it is highly unlikely with the simplest precautions.

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

I think the major prob here is you can't restore the obviously current backup of things as the virus is already there...I still think an antivirus should be available.

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

youre not going to get a virus on that Linux device.

the worst that could happen is corruption....and that happens on any type of device... :smileywink:

the second worse that could happen is blue-jacking or wifi-jacking....but very highly unlikely on the meego platform still.

a virus would take over and destroy files or send them over or track your data....etc.. but the platform is just not big enough for those dark characters to even consider it, let alone, your device would require you to allow the connection if they tried to get to you via wif or bt.

have no fear of others getting you a virus and don't sweat even looking for some antivirus for it. you have more to fear being in a hot, dry sandy place like las vegas, holding the phone in your hand while grabbing a metal door handle to get into a casino and having the static electricity shock wake you up and connect to your device and corrupt the memory card or files on the device (happened to me twice at ces with my e90, two different times)

Formatting the memory card would have deleted everything on it.

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

Yup mine has been...lagging...and extreme battery draining when on 3g. So I feel it's a "virus" thing? Or a worm? Or whatever...much like on the pc when after much surfing and stuff, sometimes the computer will lag and browsers start crashing and it's time for a reformat. Problem is, my understanding of the situation is, if you back it up now and reformat then restore backup, I think the problem will be there?

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

Thats why you should only backup what is absolutely necessary to avoid recontamination. Things like apps settings should be redone from scratch.

However, I am still of the opinion that it is unlikely you have a virus. The system is probably just clogged from too much use and needs a reset to tidy everything up again.

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

when you know that everything is working good, you should always create a new backup with that date. then just delete the older ones.

i usually have two backups in my memory. one that i just created and the one before it.

this way, even if it is backed up and i have not changed anything and start to have issues, you always have the one previous to use.

there are 2 musts when you are using electronics and installing apps and software on them...

1. backup
2. backup OFTEN

Re: Antivirus needed for N9?

I see :smileyhappy: Which folder did you save them in? Try moving them to Pictures or Downloads.

Move one or 2 to downloads and see if the phone picks them up there.
