thats right people, we just got full portrait hildon-desktop, that means the rotation works everywhere
, FULL PORTRAIT DESKTOP ,
here is a small video , you can have up to 9 homescreens and it works great .
Main features of this modified hildon-desktop are:
- auto-rotation of the desktop
- widgets also rotate
- widget postion is stored separately for portrait and landscape mode
- when you enter portrait mode for the first time, you will probably have to arrange widgets in the way you like it
- each widget added to portrait mode is available also in landscape and vice versa.
Package is based on the latest cssu hildon-desktop package, which means new features like:
- improved task navigator by freemangordon
- do not change from portrait to landscape when device lies on a table by freemangordon
- added configurable saturation for blurless by David Fries
- included transitions.ini in deb configfile to retain user settings by David Fries ....
you can download it here (.deb) .
i don't know if it can be installed from the app manager, didn't really try to install it there, you can try, if it didn't work, try this :
-put the downloaded file on your n900 (don't put it in a folder, just drag and drop in the n900 drive main folder )
-install rootsh from the extras,
-than open x-terminal, and type :
sudo gainroot (and hit enter )
dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/hd_18_07_2011.deb (and hit enter)
now reboot .....
some screenies :

big thanks to arcean for this ....

elie mate can you help me uninstall it? I believe it has a bug: when i awnser a call and place the phone, the proximity sensor locks the screen and when i try to end the call i got to unlock the phone, then it appears the main desktop screen, go to the multitask, select the call function and then end the call. It's a mess

@er_bpaul
By default, when you connect the N900 to PC via USB and select the "Mass storage" mode you only get access to the MyDocs (i.e. /home/user/MyDocs) folder on the device and to the memory card.

ok...so my patience got the best of me.
it works great...one more kudo for elie for swooning me. ![]()
the great part about this that is not explained in the post is that you can reconfigure your entire desktop to how you want it, so the icons and widgets do not need to just rotate, but will completely be reconfigured upon how YOU want it!
