btw im defo going to take it back..the memory is shocking on here..
Apparently I only have 2GB memory when in reality I should have 32GB?..
Maybe it has something to do with the corruption of the memory, but its very annoying..

nng. I've still not seen the file.. did you run the debug command again? with the list of things that appear (and the spinner and the [DONE] bits appear) or did you just run submit?

The memory on your phone is split 4 ways:

OS - 128Meg
Swap space - 768Meg
User OS data - 2G (installed apps, phone book, contacts, bookmarks)
Mass storage - 28Gig (videos, photos, music, maps)

Your 28Gig slice is broken (or rather corrupted)

I've not seen your upload yet.. something is going wrong..

I think the safest bet is to run the debug again..

Copy and paste the download text then run the

sh fixroot.sh debug

script and you should be ok..

its called debug-restore.tgz when you run it from the fixroot.sh script..

the fixroot script actually calls:

sh ./debug.sh upload debug-restore.tgz

this means the debug file should be in the current working directory..

So its done now..everytime I run this command I always get

"verify error:num=20: unable to get local issuer certificate"

What ever is happening, it is not submitting the file.. at all..

Did you run the fixroot debug command again or did you run the submit command?

dang...unit stores everything....i apparently have not flashed this device to vanilla since last september!

i guess thats good showing i have been able to fix most my challenges with command line rather then complete reflash.

dont waste too much time on my info cp.


but is you see something that can be done to make the device run smoother, do let me know.

i saw a large strain of errors and restart counts on indivual applicatoons... :/

Do you not have an internet connection where are now? Where exactly are you? hotel?

you can try this

Download and install the "rootsh" package from app manager

turn off the phone

turn it back on

Open a terminal

Run

sudo   gainroot

sh fixroot.sh format

answer yes to proceed.. and wait for it to finish.. let me know if you see any errors

sh    fixroot.sh   restore

ok so I took back the phone and they somehow managed to unlock the block on the memory which helps a LOT.
Now I have a question, is it right that I can only use around 4GB from the 27GB for apps?
Seems that everything else is for videos, music etc etc..then you only have 4GB for apps..seems a bit unfair to me..

also is there a program I can use that can sort of "clean up" the n900?..sort of like CleanUP for the PC?

The 27gb volume is like an SD card.. it is formatted using a windows file system (FAT32)

The problem with this is that Linux cannot run software effectively from a FAT32 volume.

Also, when you use USB Mass storage mode, the 27gig slice is disconnected from the phone and connected directly to the USB.. this is how your PC can read it.. during this time your phone can't even browse the storage..

So.. to solve this problem, Nokia reserved a 2gb slice for crucial data and software.. 2G of phone software is a LOT of software...

Think carefully about what this means:

Software is split into two bits.. software and data.. the software is stuff that the computer runs.. the data is files that the running software reads.. the data can be stored on the 27gig slice..

So in the example of the maps app.. the maps app is installed on the os partition, but the map data which is massive in comparison (GB rather than a few MB) is stored on the 27gb slice..

unless you're going to install everything, you shouldn't need to worry about it!

I've got 700MB free of my 2GB slice.. I am a heavy user!
