Can someone tell me how to upgrade my firmware to the new PR1.2 released yesterday.
I have a Vodafone direct N900 and understand they are going take months maybe to upgrade.
I know they say it will invalidate the warranty, but not worried about that.

If you had have bought form a separate provider, such as Carphone Warehouse, you would NOT have been stuck with a Vodafone Firmware, Vodafone are notorious for delaying updates to their firmwares, sometimes they even don't. Flash your phone and you may lose your warranty - food for thought in the future

it won't show up to you in Application Manager no matter how many apps etc you remove. It sees your current firmware being 205 (not 203, as per rest of UK) so it won't show up.
You NEED to flash it as per the instructions mentioned in the thread above. That is the only way you can get the phone away from the nasty VF firmware, and be able to keep up with the rest of us...

Of course there is Matthew - that's why I posted to suggest to people to upgrade next time through a third party - just remember if you are on a contract, when your contract expires or when they allow you to upgrade, it takes a further month if you elect to upgrade vis a third party - it's in the terms and conditions etc. Your phone is only branded by Vodafone and the firmware "tied-up" if you bought the phone from them in the first place.

Hi all,
I am new to all this so hope this helps,
as a frustrated Vodafone customer not being able to update my
N900 softwware until they release it, or unless i Flash it, which sounds
complicated to me,
I have just downloaded the new Nokia ovi, suite 2.2.0.241
using windows 7, with ease, as recommended on here.
This now allows me to contact and sync my N900 with ovi, which
was not possible before, it also now offers the option to upgrade my
N900 software, via Ovi from my current 2.2009.51.1.205.1, to the new
PR1.2 (10.2010.19.1,)
So i was wondering if anyone has used this method to upgrade there phone
software yet, and what were the results,
it all looks very straight forward to do, and promises much more usability.
the only things not available now are Messaging, and Mapping update,
both should be available when i update the phone software,

Update to previous thread above,
I have just downloaded the new PR 1.2, using the new Nokia Ovi suit,
via USB
this was a very simple, 5 click process,
Click 1 finds new O/S
Click 2 backs up data
Click 3 downloads new O/S, this took around 10 mins followed by reboot,
at this point following reboot the Ovi suit stopped, so i simply restarted the Ovi suit and re-loaded my settings, pic's, contacts, etc
Click 4 was a reload saved data
Click 5 was Finished
unfortunatly i lost some of my settings, email address, desk top themes, and internet ssettings,
but they were soon re installed
I still dont have Sync with messageing, but everything else looks OK,
and about product confirms version 10.2010.19.1.205.1
Hope this works for other vodafone users,
