there is a bug in the twitter application that should be released in the pr1.1 that is coming in next couple of weeks to fix it.
it will also allow for the twitter application to upload a picture as well. (currently that is not an option)
you can alos use the html twitter webpage, then just create a shortcut in the applications list. that is wwhat i had to do.
the issue is fixed after you reformat the device. it usually works the first time and if you delete the twitter account and then try again, is where the bug is.

use this. worked on my unit!
open xterm (do not devel-su into the terminal)
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/http_proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/proxy
gconftool --recursive-unset /system/osso
this will clear all your internet connections and wifi setups. but it will make your twitter able to work.
you can just resellect your wifi accounts and reconnect to them and also your carrier internet connection as well.
hmm.
go to:
settings/applications/feeds
and make sure you are good with what you want there.
settings/notifications/Feed on home screen
and be sure that you toggle the twiiter tweets.
having dev mode enable/disabled is not going to make a difference on your device unless you try to do something that requires it to be on.
its like having a turbo on your car. do you need it....not really, but, when you want to use it, its always good to have it!

actually, everything was set correctly. It was the internet connection that was missing after i did what u suggested in developer mode in order to make Twitter works
so what i did was shut down the phone and turn it on again and feeds are pouring in
