So as many of you have suggested that N900 is not supported by the Ovi Suite (or vv) I've uninstalled Ovi Suite and installed PC suite. Now I need the maploader on http://europe.nokia.com/support/download-software/
I find that it can be loaded from www.nokia.com/maploader. but that link doesn't work.
Where can I find Map loader?

Hi theking2
OVI Suite may have deficiencies as far as N900 is concerned but is the only way that you can check for map updates now.
If I've helped in any way, a click upon the white kudos star would always be appreciated.

this discussionform is not really helping, is it?
so:maploader is not supported by Nokia. Ovi suite is not compatible with the N900.
are there any third party products to sync the N900 and Maps?

Hi There
Not sure why you are having problems, or where you are located
I am in the UK and use Nokia Ovi Maps, Via Nokia Ovi suite on my PC
I simply open Ovi suite, connect N900 via usb cable, click on Maps
which opens in a new page, this shows me which Maps i have on my N900
and offers me the choice of almost 100 new maps, which
cover the whole world to download,
I am using Ovi suite 2.2.1.23
Nokia O/S 10.20.10.19.205.1
Hope this helps

Hi magnum520
I concur with your observation here and don't know how this misunderstanding ever arose.

Hi magnum520,
I am based in the US, and recently purchased my N900. Can you please give me a step-by-step to preload maps onto my N900?
Also, with this, will I be able to use the GPS on my phone in offline mode?
Thanks

Hello n900newuser
I can only advise you as to my experience, using
Windows 7, 64 bit, you first need to download Nokia Ovi Suite, version 2.2.1.23 you will find a direct link for this on the main Nokia web site,
Then as previously stated open Ovi Suite, connect N900 via USB, it should auto Sync
then click on the Map icon, i am using O/S 10.20.10.19.1.205.1 on my N900 which you can also upgrade to via Ovi Suite,
When maps are open at the bottom left you have the option to check which maps are on your N900, (this can take some time) and at the top left it gives you the option to download any of around 100 maps, covering most of the world, click on a country you want , then select which area you need, and follow the download,
I believe you can use maps offline, but i have never had the need to try
Hope this helps, contact me if you need more info.
Regards

Hi magnum520,
I tried what you said, and am able ti see the maps I loaded on my phone. But even then, the phone asks me to connect to the internet in order to use the GPS. So I guess offline GPS is not possible on Nokia N900? Can you please try and let me know if there is a work-around?
Thank you,

Hi ceroberts75,
I am able to load maps onto my N900. But I am unable to use it in the offline mode i.e., without connecting to the net. Have you tried working like this? Worked?
Thanks,

oddlyp, i have never tried to use it in offline mode before...until you just asked me.
in theory, if you have the maps loaded, you should be able to do it,but i just got an error.
could even search for an address in california, and i have that map loaded.
says to choose a connection. :/ soz
i only noticed that when the maps are loaded, i dont wait for the map to load during travel in 2/2.5G areas.

Hi ceroberts75,
Yes that is what I have been trying to do! But to no avail. I even called up Nokia care. The representative said offline mode is not possible on N900
. I will try going to some Nokia store and find out!
Thanks,
