I have my n900 hooked up to my wireless at home.

But when I disconnect, it often reconnects without me asking.

This drains the battery and keeps me logged in to Facebook when I don't want to be.

Does anyone know how I can tell the phone when and when not to hook into my wireless?

You need to go into the settings menu, and then Internet connections.

Change the connect automatically to always ask.

I believe this should do the trick.

Well...under Settings > Connectivity > Internet Connections > choose the 'Always Ask' option in the 'Connect Automatically' drop-down box.

Hope that solves your problem.

or you can install "wifi switcher" from the extras, it works great and saves a lot of battery, its a status bar plugin to disconnect same way you disconnect now, except that with wifi switcher it won't reconnect.
