Nokia N8 unable to get email working. "Needs Subscription?!" Please help!

I get the message "Nokia Messaging subscription is required to use mail on this phone contact your operator" When i try to set up my email accounts with my new nokia N8

 

I then get prompted for email and password, but i don't get anny options for Gmail, Yahoo etc, and the only option is "mail for exchange" and that doesn't work with my gmail account.

 

Any ideas? Could it be that my email account has a "." in it... im running out of options here... have done a factory reset and everything.

 

I have tried resetting my phone, and even registering on email.nokia.com(but there it says phone is unsupported)

 

I love my new N8, but i really would love for this option to work.

Hi, I had the same problem. I have just seen another post with the same issue. I paste what i wrote:

"Hi there. I have just got an N8 and I had exactly the same problem. I tried everything ... hard-reset, re-installing the firmware, etc .. I finally solved the problem. Guess what? It was my provider. I borrowed a sim card from another operator, did a hard-reset, rebooted, config. and went on the new account setup. Everything worked fine and all the providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Windows Live, etc..) appeared. After setting up my accounts swapped the simcard and now it's working. I don't know if this could be your case (I'm from Spain), but these who have an unlocked phone could try this.

By the way .. I have a problem though. I do get sms and email notifications. But the led on the menu key only blinks for the sms, as well as the notification icon on the top. Any ideas?"

Hi,

I looked for my phones settings, and there were only two options for notification lights; missed calls and messages...

Seems to me we do not have a email-option.

It worked! I borrowed a SIM from a different provider and inserted it, and the email setup worked. Didn't even have to reset the phone.

Not working  for me. Tried 2 different operators . The phone want to install Exchange client. I rely need e-mail on my phone.

 

I suppose I have to  temporally go back to my Nokia 5800 where it  worked perfect until this bug is solved.

Problem solved finely. I mange  to use  a Simi card from another  operator and then after a while I was able to make the e-mail working.:smileyhappy:
