Hi all,
Since a week I'm having trouble with gmail on my E5. It connects, starts syncing and then very quickly disconnects without downloading new mails. I tried the following:
1. Remove mailbox and set it up again, which gave an error (unable to set-up or something like that)
2. Tried it again a few days later. No error message but a 15 minute attempt to detect the mailbox settings, after which it just stopped without creating a mailbox
3. Tried it using the tutorial found on this board (http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Messaging-Email-Br
4. Checked my gmail settings, where I never changed anything. IMAP was turned on, so all looked normal...
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Jan

Hi djang_be
Welcome to Nokia forum! ![]()
Try doing a factory reset first.
1) Go to Menu
2) Control Panel
3) Settings
4) General
5) Factory settings
If prompted to enter a lock code enter 12345 unless you changed it.
Note: This reset will not delete any files that you have on the phone, this will clear pending errors and bring your mobile to its initial state. Before doing any kind of reset please create a back up on your PC using Nokia Suite software to avoid deletion of data.
After doing the factory reset try to set up your gmail account on the phone. If still the same we recommend to use Nokia Suite to check if there's software update available for your phone. For guidance how to perform the update see this link.

Here are settings which you can try if your gmail starts acting up again:
incoming mail server (receiving):
imap.gmail.com
type:
imap4
security:
ssl/tls
port (for incoming mail):
default port
outgoing mail server (sending):
smtp.gmail.com
security:
startTLS
port (for outgoing mail):
587
With the above settings, I have had more reliable connections to gmail. There is also a Java-based gmail client available, but I find the Nokia email client more convenient.
