Dear all.
I had used GPSControl once or twice, and only saw it running into the ovi gadget because I was completely unable to set up any other program to work with the gps signal. What I really wanted when I purchased the Booklet was to use the GPS with a turn-by-turn software while I am drive.
Besides of that, when I tried to turn GPS on today I received the following message: Invalid Port Number - Please try again. I then tried to open the Tera Term, but it did not show me any COM port, only TCP/IP. Does anyone know what is going on?
If anybody could also teach me in a very simple language how I could use a turn-by-turn GPS application I would also appreciate a lot.
Update: when I press Fn+F10, the 3G icon does not appear!! Someone knows what is going wrong???

Hello
Well, GPSControl is quite straightforward in the aspects you mentioned. But it's not foreseen to work together with the Nokia SW. Since I've uninstalled all the Nokia **bleep** immediately at the time I got the Booklet, I've got no experience with the co-existence of GPSControl and the Nokia stuff. But I assume that the Nokia SW will block the hardware to prevent other usage.
For proper operation you have to check which ports the command and data ports are assigned to. If it's not port 4 and 5,then you have reassign the ports within the device manager.

Thanks buddy!
Now works perfectly. Tried with Google maps and works great.
For the offline turn-by-turn, another friend recommended me The Garmin Mobile PC. Does someone have another suggestion?

I had Garmin Mobile PC working fine on Booklet.
It is the best GPS software to me.

Hi, Twain!
I have one more issue here: "Options" screen is not fitting my native Booklet resolution screen.
Looks like the window is not resizing in accordance with system DPI settings (I have set my custom DPI to make things bigger and not to damage my eyes). An "Options" form is too big, lower part appears off the screen.
As a result - all lower buttons on the form is unaccessible to me and I can't Save or Cancel changes.
Please, fix this.
Thanks, Alexey.

I am also getting the invalid port number error. Its set on 4 and 5 for data port and command port respectively.
dont see where in device manager i can check the ports for the GPS.
Thanks.

Hi
Check the ports in the device manager. If data is on port 4 and command on port 5 then check if any of the Nokia software is locking the port(s). Close all these softwares therefor. also don't forget to choose the preset for Nokia Booklet.

Twain, what about my bug with "Options" screen? Can this be fixed?
2010-06-02 21:22
Hi all
Sorry for the late reply, I'm currently quite busy with other stuff. I didn't forget the bug with the settings screen. I already have resized it and also put in some other changes. But the SW is not yet ready since I experienced some "problems" with autostart on Windows start. Depending on state of WIFI card and other hard- and software components, the autoconnect command is not executed reliably all the time. I have to apply some more sophisticated hardware access routines therefor.
So please stay patient, it's gonna be most probably next week till the next release is ready.

Hi
To get rid of my "duties" I spent another afternoon for the software and now I think I'm done for the moment in terms of adding new features.
The current feature set should be taken as final, debugging wil still be done if necessary.
Features:
- system tray based tool with left click pull down menu
- right click GPS ON/OFF switching
- Auto-ON on start
- autohide on start
- allways on top feature
- auxiliary commands for incorporation of A-GPS and other features
- presets for Nokia Booklet and Sony Vaio P (that uses same WWAN card)
- customiseable port settings
- data monitor for command and data ports
- optimised window size for DPI settings up to 125%
- only reduced library set is now required (install package is approx. 4 MB).
Please go for the newest version here: GPSCONTROL 1.2a
UNINSTALL a former version if present.

Hi
I changed the manner how content is displayed in the monitor box. It's now scrolling down automatically. I also removed some other minor bugs and errors. Hope that's it for the moment.

Hello @Twain,
I uninstalled the former version of the Gpscontrol but unfortunately something
went wrong. Now with newer version I have following message:
"Run-time error ´713´:
Class not registered.
You need the following file to be installed on your machine.
MSSTDFMT.DLL."
I googled for this .dll and I downloaded it to system32 file, but I
still have the same error message and the Gpscontrol won´t start up.
Would you have any advice?
Thanks, vvaino

i changed every line manualy, and now it works
my problem is bigger!
Google Earth can not find my Position
is it possible to show in GPSControl if i have a GPS fix?

@Twain,
There is nothing to be sorry about, it was purely my own mistake.
The app asked "to I want to delete all files related to this app" and
I answered yes. Then it took away also some shared .dll files.
For now I can not run the gpscontrol, but it should be ok, when I
have fixed the .dll problem.
It seems to be little difficult but also interesting challenge.
Keep on rocking, @Twain!
