DRM licensing/OVI player

Please can someone help me. I have the nokia n8. I have downloaded music onto my phone via the ovi music site, but when I try to play it on my laptop it tells me I need a licence. I have been onto the nokia website to see about this, but it tells that my laptop is not the registered pc. It's the only pc that I have installed ovi suite on. I have even reinstalled it, but no luck. This is really starting to annoy me as this phone is supposed to be really cool, but it's about to become one with my wall! I know I can be really thick sometimes, but surely it's not meant to be this difficult?? Thank you in advanced.

Re: DRM licensing/OVI player

Hi TJ,

Are you having a Ovi Music Unlimited N8? If you have downloaded DRM music from Ovi Music on your phone (presumably via Ovi Music Unlimited), then you will need to register your PC with Ovi Music Unlimited in order to get the DRM license and play the music on your PC.

To register your PC: Go to Account>Music Account>Sign in with your Ovi Music Account> You will be informed that the PC is not registered and a "REGISTER THIS PC" is available.

Do note that once registered, DRM music is playable on the PC but not on other PC. You can only change a registered PC once every 90 days.

Let me know if it helped.

Re: DRM licensing/OVI player

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE ADVICE!!! It worked. Now, is it possible to transfer the music to an mp3 player?

Re: DRM licensing/OVI player

Hi TJ,

As you now aware that all music downloaded using OMU subscription are DRM protected, it means that you can ONLY play music in your registered PC and Nokia devices.

Hope it helps :smileyhappy:

Re: DRM licensing/OVI player

I'm having issues with DRM  I recently bought a new laptop and although I can see all the tracks I previously downloaded when I try and play they say DRM needs to be downloaded.  When I try it won't work>

I thought I would try the steps aboves but now when trying to register and it's saying user is from another territory!!

I'm can't find any decent help anywhere (It's taken 30mins to get on this forum!) - is there anyone at Nokia you can just email directly?

Re: DRM licensing/OVI player

@russellvic,

This sometimes happens if you reinstall the PC software or get a new PC. The solution is to delete and re-download the tracks from: Nokia Music (change location if needed) > Account > Download history > Subscription downloads.

Sometimes renaming the DRM component helps too. Instructions can be found here. Close Nokia Music player and Nokia Suite before the process.

Hope this helps you!

Re: DRM licensing/OVI player

I have had exactly the same experience as the previous contributors.I had to rebuild my PC recently and all but 2 albums continue to work fine. The remaining 2 cant find the license. The PC is registered, and when I go to Download history and try to download the albums again, I cant do it without paying for them a second time.

Ant suggestions?
