music post Belle Update

I have just 'upgraded' my N8 from Anna to Belle and want to get my music tracks back. I have looked at the instructions on http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/nokia-belle-update/nokia-belle-update-faq but there is a problem. Although all the tracks are present on my phone and show up when I start the music player, Noia Suite 3.3.86 says 'no music on the phone' so I can't follow the instructions. I have tried to play a couple of individual tracks but always get the message 'can't obtain license'. My Nokia music login is OK and allows me to see my purchase history (only about 25 tracks). I have downloaded most of them again to my PC, but some say 'available only as an album download'. When I try to copy the newly downloaded tracks to the phone it appears to do it (the blue bar makes progress) but ends with 'cannot copy these tracks'. So what do I do now?

Re: music post Belle Update

HI Chris, are you a Nokia Music Unlimited user? If so, plese follos these instructions and see if they may help http://www.nokia.com/gb-en/support/faq/?action=singleFAQ&caseid=FA137784_en_US

When you copy the tracks from your PC, make sure that you are using Nokia Music player, and that the track or album is deleted from the phone already.

Cheers,
elin

Re: music post Belle Update

I have tried that and it comes back as 'unable to acquire license' . I can't follow the instructions to delete songs and transfer them again as Nokia Suite says that there is no music on my phone (despite it appearing as normal on the phone).

The problem may be associated with the fact that the phone is not the original one I transferred the tracks to - I moved them to a new phone quite legally and they all played under Anna, and the PC is not the same one I originally downloaded them to as I have upgraded that too. Don't you just love DRM!

Re: music post Belle Update

No further response from Nokia, so I am left in the situation where I cannot use products I have legally bought, because of their ineptitude in the upgrade process. Many people would call that theft. As it happens there are only about 25 tracks affected, but that is still £20 they have stolen from me.

As we have (sadly) come to expect from Nokia the 'solutions' they post in their FAQ are completely useless and simply don't work. Are we to conclude that they want to encourage illegal downloads because their DRM mechanism is so ludicrously tight? All of my music is (at the moment) legally obtained. Maybe I am being naive and should go DRM free from now on.

Re: music post Belle Update

Hey CGG1,

I'm very sorry to hear about the issue. First of all, please check that the songs that are not working, are still available in Nokia Music Store. If they are not, it means they have been removed and it is not possible to get them anymore.

If they are, you could try the troubelshooting provided here. And if they don't help, contact your local Nokia Care line. They can then escalate the case. If you contact them, have your username, registered phone number and email address and the IMEI of the device. You can get the IMEI by typing in *#06# in your phone.

Hope you get the issue solved!

Re: music post Belle Update

This has now been resolved, not in a technical way but by Nokia support crediting my account with sufficient funds to buy the tracks again! I am grateful to Nokia support for sorting it, but you would think that their DRM model needs a serious rethink.

As a more minor point, several of the tracks that I had before are now marked as available for 'album only' download - i.e. you have to buy the whole album to get them. Why should that be when other tracks on the same album are available as one-off downloads?
