Nokia responds to hoax e-mails and SMS campaigns circulating globally

We have received the following statement from Nokia about this issue:

Nokia has been made aware of several hoax messages on mobile phone promotion or lottery campaigns, sent via e-mail or SMS in the name of Nokia. Nokia has not initiated any such campaigns, and has nothing to do with them.

Nokia regrets the inconvenience caused to our customers by the action of the individual/s who have perpetrated these hoax messages. Please ignore these messages and do not pass them on.

Here are some examples of the types of message people have received:

As a personal note, I would implore all members not to respond to any messages of this nature by sending personal information, copies of identity documents or money to to any address, e-mail address or phone number mentioned in any message promising prizes.

If you would like to be notified of genuine Nokia promotions and competitions as they arise, you can go to www.ovi.com and create a Nokia account, remembering to tick at least one option for receiving news from Nokia.
