Hi!
I've got a B&W C5 headset that is made for "iPhone". Although the sound and middle button works well when used in my Lumia 920 the mic or volume keys do not. I'm looking for some type of adapter to help me at least get the micophone working. Does anyone know of something like that?

Apple use proprietary control algorhythms for their headsets, which makes them not fully compatible with anything else. I do not believe anyone has bothered to develop such an adapter.

Thing is it should work with just remapping of the connectors. Everything works fine except for the mic, I doubt the mic needs special software to work.

I thought the volume controls do not work either ?

I found some adapters out there but I have not found much info about them getting the mic working. Anyone tested any and can tell?

SInce Apple uses a custom non standard method for the microphone it will not work.

What is it that is non standard? The hardware connectors?

the way they connect the mic and the signals they use. It's their own usual way and not compatible with anyone else

Nokia has gone above what is needed to use different headsets on the 920 and 820. Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 have a universal audio connector that enables the use of both American Headset Jack (AHJ) headsets and standard Nokia OMTP headsets.

A phone like the blackberry uses the AHJ jack and their headsets will work, just like anything else that is not built for apple. These earbuds with mic for blackberry work just fine . $9.99

It seems my volume keys started working but not the mic, sometimes it was bugged though so it thought the volume down botton was pressed all the time. Seems the adapter I got did not work.

iPhone uses a propriety system for the mic which is not compliant with any other standard. This is why it does not work.

According to this resource any standard headset connector (except Apple's) should work with the 920 and 820 Lumias:
