in my oppinion such expensive piece of electronics should just work - "right out from box"!!!
why happy buyer, who waited for this "masterpiece" (avoiding purchasing other manufacturers ones) of latest electronics should do numerous specific things, makimg specific recharge/discharge rituals, swiching off this and that, woodoo something, update, reset, hard reset etc,... to get normal working phone with acceptable battery life???
how unrespecting and scoffing manufacturer can be to his trusty customers???

Question: is a smartphone still a smartphone if you disable all background activities like email sync, notifications, instant messaging, news updates and weather updates? It's good to use battery saving tips but Nokia should also produce a phone which has decent battery life for ordinary smartphone usage.

Everything else about this phone I like.
The build quality, the feeling of holding it, looking at it. It is beautiful, it is solid, feels like it was crafted from a single piece of material.
It is smooth, I love the OS, it is different, fresh, quick.
What I love especially about the OS is the "Phone App", in Android I found it extremely frustrating that when you see your list of calls, you only see the latest received or made call to a single person, and the timestamp of that.
What I loved in symbian os was that when you opened your call list, you saw all the single calls, received and made, and their time stamps.
In android I had to press and hold over the name, tap "view Call history" to see the single activities, which I hated.
Also, I love the screen of this phone, it seems it has some Lipophobic properties to it (Doesn't attract oil stains from fingers), it leaves little to none finger prints or smudges on the screen. It is a lot better in this than my previous phone HTC Desire Z, or Nokia N97.
I am going to compare tonight with a friends HTC One X's screen, since I don't have experience from the newer handsets screens.
One thing I wish that could be changed is that you could add a background to homescreen/app list background, you know that black /white choice can get boring, even though I do understand the reason for this, it wont hurt to actually give that chance to some customers who want it.
Because the phone looks ABSOLUTELY STUNNING when viewing WP Store, Nokia Music, etc etc when there is a background, and the beautiful big white WP8 text only seen partly.. Love it!
But this battery issue.
I am extremely disappointed.. And truly mad.
Like someone said, a new top of the line phone should come out of the box working perfectly.
And is it a smart phone anymore when you have to disable almost all if not all of the features that make it a smart phone in the first place?
I find it extremely annoying that I have to manually turn on Locations service to use Nokia Drive.
**bleep**ing annoying stuff.

Have you taken the time to actually read the previous posts in the thread? What you describe is found in point 3 in my post from earlier.
Also it should be noted that Nokia Support Discussions is a place where users can discuss and try to resolve possible issues. If you feel your device is defective there is little anyone can do here and you should contact Nokia Care or visit a Nokia Care Point for further assistance. You can find contact information here.

Hello everyone!
I personally have great news about my Lumia 920, it seems now that the phone has been in use for 4 to 5 days, the battery is "fully mature".
Also, I believe my problem was with the USB PC charger, maybe the fault is in my USB port, or the phone software, dont know.
But when I plugged the USB cable to the wall socket supplied with the phone, it charged it quick and full, and kept that full charge till morning.
Today, I had about 1-1½ hours of talk, maybe an hour of internet use, and 10 or so text messages.
Battery level is 80%, and the phone has been off the charger for 11 hours.
Here are my current settings:
- Bluetooth OFF (except on occasions when I need it for sharing)
- WiFi OFF (expect on occasions when I surf via the WiFi, it is so quick!)
- Locations OFF (expect on occasions when I need to use navigation)
- NFC OFF
- Brightness Automatic
- Screen timeout 15min, but this is because I like to close the screen myself when looking at youtube videos etc.
- Screen sensitivity set to High
Apps:
- Connection Tiles (disabled in background)
- Battery Level For WP8 (this app's background usage is allowed)
- Nokia Drive Beta (disabled in background)
- WhatsApp (does not show on "background tasks menu", I wonder what's that all about, but it seems to be working)
- Some games that dont show up on background tasks, Chess, Plants vs. Zombies, Solitaire. Don't have Angry Birds because I already finished all of them including the newest Star Wars on my previous phone.
The thing is, now this phone is AMAZING!
And I will try to keep some of the background things on, like Locations, since I do like to use navigation quite a lot, and it annoys me to have to put it on every time separately.
So we'll see how the battery holds up.
And if it doesn't, maybe there is a need for a software update, where you limit the amount of GPS/locations activity in the background, when the phone is not actually being used to navigate, or view maps etc.

I would be interested if people see better battery life after removing and reinstalling/reconfiguring Skype, Facebook and GMail. These were mentioned on Mashable (below) and WPCentral.

Something to try (can't hurt).
1) reboot device
2) enable airplane mode (from Settings)
3) lock device for 30min
4) unlock device and disable airplane mode
5) continue to use device as normal
Is battery life better?

This phone is loaded with features. but why does the battery so bad. If this phone has to be in market, it needs to have a better battery. Can Microsoft release patch which can improve the battery, as was done by Apple

Hello everyone! As an addition to my last post, I want to tell you that today I've had the Locations service on for the whole day, it's been 9 hours since I took the phone off the charger, and the battery level is down to 91%, so it's been going at 1% and hour rate. That's pretty cool with me.
I've done 10 sms, 30 minutes of calls, and around 15 minutes of surfing the internet.
Bluetooth, wifi, nfc off, I only use them when I need them.
To me it seems the battery truly needs "breaking in", it takes time for it to become fully functional.
Although some people are complaining about their problems after weeks of use, they truly seem to have faulty batteries/problems with WP8 software.
To me the phone is now more than good!

@J0han
Good to hear your experience gets better. It would seem that there's a lot of people here who basically do not read any or most of the posts but simply post their concerns and wait for a response (which in fact was there to start with).
The given that modern day batteries do need a few charge cycles to get to their maximum capacity as well as the software needing time to properly adjust and setup battery management is probably the most overlooked and disregarded issue here.
And anyone who claims this is not the case for other brands or phone models is either misinformed, talks from hearsay and not from experience or simply wants to troll around more then offer a solution or answer. That said, there will always be cases where the battery is actually not OK and in those case the only solution is to return to the retailer, visit a Nokia Care Point or contact Nokia Care.

I think the long time at 100% is just software reporting. I think 100% is more like 110%, at least as far as the battery meter goes.

I'm back!
I haven't charged my phone in two days, or to be exact 39 hours.
Battery level reads 44%, and 1 day and 1 hour remaining with my use.
Same kind of settings as previously, Locations still on in the background.
I've had not that much use, maybe 1½ hours of calls, 1 hour of internet use, 20 sms.
But still very nice, it is not draining on it's own like it was before.

I was very concerned about battery life the first few days but I am getting pretty good battery life now. I was ending my work days at around 30-40% charge the first few days of normal use but after a few charging cycles I am now ending at around 60-70% (better than my iPhone 4S!!). That is with pretty much constant audiobook playback and probably around an hour of web browsing (spread out over smaller sessions).
Brightness set to Auto (toggled to High, then auto turned on... best auto-tuning brightness I've seen O_o)
Disabled Bluetooth (never used)
Disabled NFC (never used)
Disabled Background Usage on pretty much everything (never used)
Everything else is set to defaults... WIFI on 24/7, email syncing regularly, etc.
