Calculator app in Lumia 800

Has anyone else noticed that the calcualtor app can't work out percentages properly?   This facility is important to me at work, but now I'm having to carry a calculator as well as my "smart" phone.

For instance, if I want to know what % 25 is of 600 on a real calculator I would enter 25 / 600 % and get 4.167

Doing the same on the Lumia returns 150.

Is there a way to delete the built-in dud calculator application?

Then, at least, I can download another app that DOES work and call it calculatorso I can find it when I need it .

It's not a scientific calculator just like any other basic calculator included with a computer OS. You can get a number of calculators from the store..

Re: Calculator app in Lumia 800

The calculator result is correct . 25% of 600 is 150. You'll get that result on any phone calculator.

OP wants what % 25 is of 600 and not what is 25% of 600 ..the correct answer IS 4.166666

..and this is not a Scientific function. I get this answer on the most basic calculator that I have...

Re: Calculator app in Lumia 800

Most basic calculators I know do not know how to handle % any other then the 'regular' function as in the number preceding it is to be used as a percentage of the previous calculation. The basic calculator in windows, android, Symbian, WP, iOS, OSX and linux all follow this behaviour..

Re: Calculator app in Lumia 800

Thank you for the % calculators but it is easier to ignore the % key and do 25/600x100 instead of switching apps.

I don't think I've ever seen any calculator, basic or otherwise, that can't handle what is, in effect, simple arithmetic. In fact, I have a Samsung phone which cost £4.95 brand new that can handle this!

I am a firm believer that you should always buy the phone which suits you best rather than buy a phone and request the manufacturer change it to suit you, which frankly never happens unless there are millions of you.

Incidentally I just fired up the default calculator on my top of the range Samsung smartphone only to find that it does not have a % key. I wonder why Samsung omitted this feature which is present on the £4.95 phone from their £600 phone.

Re: Calculator app in Lumia 800

I quite agree with you and the Lumia meets all my other needs, the main thing being the navigation that doesn't need a data connection, so this little niggle won't see me throw the phone away any time soon (god, Microsoft and Nokia all know there are bigger issues than this!)

However, if you discover a bug or a flaw, don't you think the manufacturer should have an opportunity to correct it in one of their software updates?

Re: Calculator app in Lumia 800

Only if it is considered a flaw. Obviously most of the mainstream smartphone manufacturers dont consider it a flaw since they are all omitting this feature from their top end offerings.

Maybe its because they know there are apps available offering these more advanced features.
