Hi, I've just learned about the full specifications of Nokia Lumia 820 and I've come to like it more than 920. What's bothering me is why it will not be having gorilla glass, just like its predecessor, Nokia Lumia 800.
Does Nokia have any surprises for its customers regarding this matter? Does Nokia Lumia 820 have some Gorilla Glass substitute that could also protect the phone's screen? Yes, there will be ruggedized shells, but they can only offer protection to the back of the phone from how I saw it in the images.
Well, it's just disappointing. I already got so hyped up about getting either Nokia Lumia 820 or 920 but both have major disadvantages. 820 does not have gorilla glass which makes it very prone to physical damages (unless Nokia has something up its sleeve), while 920 does not have a microSD and a user-changeable battery.
It would be nice if Nokia could give us some reassurance that the durability of 820 will not be defeated by its predecessor, because it would be lame if that would be the case.
Thank you.

And from today's Q&A session:
" the device will go through strict Nokia testing, including drop testing. with the intechangeable protective shell, we are also providing additional protection while maintaining the design intact"

One more thing to consider before going to 820..Will WP8 devices be able to save apps and games on the SD?
If not 820 is DOA..4.1G user accessable memory?

The Noia Lumia 820 has scratch resistant glass. It has 1GB memory and 8GB storage with an optional memory card of maximal 64 GB.

Hi, I wouldn't get too excited about Gorilla Glass.... mine scratched within the first week. ( Lumia 900 )

Just as I've said in another thread. Gorilla glass isn't even difficult to scratch and is not the reason to dispense with a screen protector. I've friends whose gorilla glass equipped phones mysteriously scratched just by leaving it in their pockets without any screen protector.

Hi,
As some have already stated, the screen of the Lumia 820 is made from a scratch-resistant safety glass, but in this case not Corning(TM) Gorilla Glass(TM).
Like all Nokia phones, this model has gone through extensive hardware testing before going to market, including tests to simulate the normal wear and tear of daily life, so the choice of glass used for the screen should not discourage you from buying this model if it otherwise meets your needs.

Can you name the glass manufacturer or any specs comparable to corning's products? The problem is: when you buy a good car, you expect michelin/ goodyear/ pirelli/ bridgestone tires instead of hankook. Could be the latter one has good ones, too, but marketing works... ![]()
