I've got the Lumia 920 now for more than three weeks.  I downloaded about 30 apps, a lot of Nokia and also other populars such as Skype, Facebook, Twitter and so on.

I haven't received any app update since I bought my phone and downloaded all those apps.  I think it's strange because on my 800, I still receive regular app updates (about two-three times a week I think)

So, I think it's abnormal that I don't receive any updates on the 920.  Could this have something to do with the wifi issue on the current Win8 release?

App updates don't need WiFi

have you downloaded any apps you used to have on your Lumia 800?

some older apps can cause problems...

Depends on the app. I believe apps above 20MB need WiFi to download, such as games etc. But the notification that there is an update should still show up in the Store. I think that the Store checks for updates only once or twice a day and then they should pop us as number next to the Store tile.

You could try a soft reset (which won't delete any data), by pressing the volume down and power buttons together and releasing the buttons once you feel the phone vibrate.

The only other way you could check for updates is to search the name manually of the Apps and go into their item descriptions which should pop up with the Update button instead of Share. For Nokia apps, that should be easy enough, wouldn't even need to search, as they all should be in the Nokia Collection category.

No, it doesn't work with reset. Same problem here, no idea when it checks for updates since it can't connect to WiFi continuously, I believe it has missed its timing to check for updates, that's why no notification.

you dont even get the app update notifications

with wifi on all the time, which is enabled in the new fw update. Nothing like the android updates and notifications which is a shame. I just manually look for them at the mo, which im hoping will get sorted eventually.

can nokia not have an update section in the app highlights app for specifically the settings updates as these never show on screen either save having to search or find out from third parties.

unfortunately there is no way at present to force the Store to check for updates manually, you can always leave feature suggestions with Microsoft for the WP8 platform over at http://windowsphone.uservoice.com
