Okay, we're gettting flip to silence in a future update. While I think it is a nice feature to have, I do hope we'll also get an actual Silent mode that doesn't require visiting Settings. I want to see when I'm getting a call or text, even when my phone is on silent. Keeping my phone upside down on the table to silence it is like leaving it at home to silence it.

Flip to silent means you need to actually flip the phone over to silence it.
Keeping it face down will not silence it and in most cases flipping it from face down to face up will not silence it either. So in general you must have it face up for the flip to silent feature to work, i.e. in theory you should see what you are getting before deciding to flip-silence it.

It's just people usually leaving the vibration active within the Silent profile settings. I'm sure that generally that can be turned off as well, on handsets which support that functionality that is..

Lumia does have a silent mode....
I don't really consider it a silent mode when you can only access it via Settings (unless you normally have vibration off). But sure, you can fully silence Lumia via a trip to Settings and back. I'd like to see the top bar simply toggle between ring & vibration / vibration / silent, just like it now does between the first two options. Even better, I'd like to see Profiles, but that's another issue.

Vibration mode in the Lumia is the "silent mode" right?
Well, kind of. If you don't use vibration, the two modes that you can toggle between are Ringtone and Actually silent.
I also thought about simply reducing the volume to zero. I guess is a workaround, although quite tedious.

Dude.. you can switch to silent mode even on you are on lock screen. While on lock screen or while using your phone press volume rocker up or down then tap the bell or ringer icon which uppers on the top of the screen. Isn't that silent mode?
That only works if you don't use vibration. If you use vibration, the bell/ringer icon only switches between ring + vibrate / vibrate only.

Just got my 920 and want to install Nokia Flip to Silence feature, which I loved on my 900. Where can I find it to install?

For Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 users:
Flip to silence can be done by using the volume up/down button without rejecting the call. You can still answer or ignore the call as normal afterwards, as long as the caller does not end the call, or the call has been diverted to voicemail.
Hope this helps. ![]()
