I bought 4 lumia 900’s, one of them generates a horrible echo sound to anyone that calls it.
All handsets have already had the software upgrade.
The bad handset will not experience any issues. The issues are experienced by the person calling the bad handset.
The bad handsets volume must be above a specified listening level (the unit I have must be above 7 to generate the echo)
This only occurs if the handset is being used like a normal phone (no earpiece / Bluetooth, or speaker phone on)
The issue does not replicate if you use a plugged in head set
The issue does not replicate if you use a Bluetooth head set
The issue does not replicate if you use speakerphone
The issue only occurs in a weak signal strength area. If the signal strength is 2 bars or higher, the issue goes away.

Even i m facing the same problem for Lumia 800...the person calling gets very disturbing sound and echo of their own voice whenever i m on wired headset....i have switched to bluetooth headset for timebeing as nokia care people say they have to send to factory and it will take atleast 15 days to get it repaired...its very annoying.

I have the same problem on my N9. Not entirely convinced it is electronic as it is only when the volume is high . I'm suspicious that the mic is picking up the voice from the earpiece through the chasis

It would be very helpful, to everyone involved, if you provided clearer details as to what troubleshooting has been done to isolate the problem.
What firmware are you running (Settings>About>More Info)
What steps have you taken to isolate the problem to your device or Vodafone? You need to place your SIM into at least one different device and see if the call echo follows your service. It would be good to try both another Lumia AND a completely different make/model. You also need to try someone else's SIM in your Lumia.
If the echo follows your SIM, or happens only at certain locations, then it's your service.
If the echo happens in all locations, on the majority of calls, AND with someone else's SIM inserted, then it is clearly the device.
It's very important to remove your service as an issue. No matter what Vodafone may tell you, you must do the tests above to be sure. When you can identify the problem with certainty to your phone, then you need to contact Nokia for service. Sure, it may be a software glitch, but one that should be addressed.
No one likes to hear their own voice echoed. Actually, there was just research (I think a device made) that 'silenced' people by echoing their voices back to them after a very short delay. It jars the speaker a bit and they shut up.

Rather than create a new thread I thought it best to add to this as I have the same problem, people reporting echoing. I've tried to turn the volume down and its had no effect.
I've been on to Vodafone and been told to take it back to the shop but from what I've read I'm not sure a replacement handset will fix it..........................I'll let you know the results as I'm off there later
